thegiftofdeath texted me tonight to tell me that they're making a third Mummy movie, out later this year. I'm... torn. On one hand, the trailer looks awesome, I loved the first two for their shameless, shameless camp (and pretend that The Scorpion King never happened), and John Hannah is reprising his role. However, Rachel Weisz is not, and instead of writing Evie out, they've recast her as Maria Bello.
I'm skeptical. I don't have a problem with Bello, but recasting in a series messes with my ability to suspend disbelief. It's going to be hard for me to actually think that the actor IS the character while I'm watching, if the character has been another actor for the previous two movies.
We shall see. I'm still looking forward to it, even if I anticipate a few moments of, "Rick? Haven't you noticed that your wife is about two inches shorter, and has had extensive plastic surgery in the past ten years? No? Alright, carry on."
