I asked hemisofia about this. Lyrics are always kinda hard to translate and sometimes make no sense (as you surely know). But her comments:

yeah that sounds about right
then again song lyrics hardly make sense sometimes
like, it takes a stretch of imagination to make sense of it
i am guessing the "confidence" here can be stretched to "pride"

Still, though... Isn't it that if you lose to your pride, i.e. your pride overtakes you (like, nearly to the point you're overestimating yourself), then you'd LOSE against anyone else? XD
