1. Favorite childhood book?
The Hobbit.

2. What are you reading right now?
Kafka On the Shore, The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters, a couple of Flashman novels, Yellow Back Radio Broke Down, want me to keep going?

3. What books do you have on request at the library?
Last one was a book about the history of moral panics. I...have weird historical obsessions.

4. Bad book habit?
Reading too many at once.

5. What do you currently have checked out at the library?
None

6. Do you have an e-reader?
Nope. Too much money.

7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
Several at once, even though it's a bad habit. I like what it does to my writing.

8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?
I make more of an effort to finish books in a timely fashion, and read more carefully.

None yet, but it's only January.

11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone?
A lot.

12. What is your reading comfort zone?
Snarky, humorous/dark speculative fiction.

13. Can you read on the bus?
Sure can.

Quiet spots at UB and hotel rooms. I can't read in my apartment, unless you count the bathroom.

15. What is your policy on book lending?
I lend to friends.

16. Do you ever dog-ear books?Yup.

Yup.

19. What is your favorite language to read in?
English, but Candide and Moliere's plays were better in French.

20. What makes you love a book?
Good plot, well-rounded characters, or keen narrative observation. I like books that engage me in more than one way, and I like books that take risks, even ones I don't immediately like.

21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?
See above, plus whatever their personal tastes are.

22. Favorite genre?
Sci-fi and Victorian period (in terms of setting, anyway)

23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?)
Nobel Prize literature.

Mick Foley's memoirs. Don't laugh at me.

Yes. Not impressed.

The Maryland Way.

It's only January.

Cheese and crackers.

I avoid overhyped books for this exact reason.

30. How often do you agree with critics about a book?
Not very often, to be honest. A lot of book critics are too hung up on themselves and less interested in talking about the book.

31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
I believe in honesty. (good call, Stacy)

32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose?
Old English, so I could bore people at parties with my rune-transcription stories.

None come to mind.

34. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?
Most Russian literature. Oh, and Infinite Jest.

Langston Hughes.

None - library's farther away than the bookstore.

Never.

Raoul Duke.

Mr. Hyde.

Lots.

Not long, maybe a couple of weeks.

Boneshaker. It's not bad, I'm just sick of zombies and there's something...missing from the text.

The internet.

Jurassic Park.

Alice In Wonderland.

$200 or so.

More than I probably should.

Zombies.

Yes, but the order pretty much only makes sense to me.

50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them?
Keep 'em.

Guns, Germs, and Steel.

Fight Club.

Snobbery. Sounded a lot more interesting than it actually was.

The Flashman Papers. Rascalism abounds!
