Work has been wearing me out a lot; that combined with my normal laziness has kept me from posting much recently. Speaking of things I haven't done recently, I also haven't managed to run my Sword & Wizardry game since the first session due to a number of events coming into conflict with game time and general end of the week wariness (I know the feeling and I don't blame people for it). I've been considering talking to people about finding a time that might work better for people.
The next session is going to be pretty important, since it will probably (I can't say for sure since the players are free to try whatever they want and might go off in a different direction) be the first time a giant (albeit an injured one since they are still first level characters) shows up in the game. Giants are one of the more important monsters in the area and one of the few iconic monsters I'm using, plus (like dwarves) they have a special connection to my big dungeon.
It occurred to me today, that how I play this giant is going to be fairly important to how they'll be seen later on the game (if the game managed to continue). I could make it a dark, soulless killer; a comic brute; or a savage with a hint of nobility. There are lots of valid directions to go and each one will change the game in ways I can't predict (especially if I keep the setting and the all important setting notes for other groups once I'm done with this one).
I don't think the first session went as well as it could have--I'm trying for a different type of game than we normally do and I'm not sure how to ease people into the mind set that I have no set agenda for the game, beyond some ideas for the next session (based on whatever was happening in the last one plus some maps that tell me where all the big monsters are hiding. I'm hoping that I can do a little better with this session.
In other news, I now have a PSP--a 3000 rather than something older (I don't care if I can't crack it) or something newer (I'm not interested in the download only PSP Go)--along with Final Fantasy: Dissidia and that Finial Fantasy VII movie (which I've yet to see yet so its new to me). I already have Megaman Powered Up and Final Fantasy Tactics, because I'm weird, they were cheap, and Joey let my use his PSP.
