Let's do a fly-by.
Tuesday, I met up with my mum. We got to hang out for a couple of hours without having to *do anything*, so that felt almost normal for a change. I've had this feeling for a while that my mum keeps making up situations that I need to come over to help her fix - like she feels I wouldn't come over unless there was a good reason to do so. The only thing she achieved by doing this, was push me away, so I'm very happy to just spend some time chilling out for once. Was sort of creepy how she kept going "awww, can't believe this is the last time I get to see you~~~!". I know she meant to add "before you go to Japan", but hahahaha. Phrasing. It's been happening a lot lately, now I even find myself doing it. Like "Oh, this is my last time eating here!", "Last time I'll do laundry!" ..... I need to stop doing this.
Wednesday, Christian and I visited his sister. Their mum was there too, so we got to hang out and talk about Japan plans and other things. It seems they'll all come visit me in October! I'm looking forward to it a lot~
The rest of the week was spent eagerly working away on a couple of big projects I'd been booked for. Now I've got nothing scheduled, but I'm hoping I'll be able to get a few more projects booked for next week before I leave at least, we'll see!
Sunday is board gaming and the Oscars! I'm really looking forward to the Oscars this year for some reason. Despite the controversy, despite the fact that the awards don't really mean anything... I love the glitz and glam, you guys. I'm hoping I'll be able to watch it live on TV, it's always risky relying on streams. Fingers crossed I have access to a channel that'll air it!
I was sort of curious about it, so I looked up the nominated films I've actually seen this year. I haven't seen all the films that are up for best film, but it turns out I've seen a lot more nominated films this year than previous years! Awesome! :D
BRIDGE OF SPIES - 6 nominations
- I.. it was okay? It doesn't really stick out in my mind as anything special, though.
THE HATEFUL EIGHT - 3 nominations
- Went to the 70mm roadshow three times 8D I absolutely loved this! Jennifer Jason Leigh has been snubbed for the best supporting actress award all award season. Please, please, please someone give this to her. Omg. I am also hoping it wins best original score, the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone is gorgeous and just as engaging as the film itself.
INSIDE OUT - 2 nominations
- Bing Bong ;__________;
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD - 10 nominations
- 10 nominations??? Holy shit, hahaha. I'm actually not sure I should even count this. I guess the Mad Max franchise as a whole is lost on me. I watched the first two and liked them well enough (found them incredibly dated and difficult to get into, though). I had to give up on this latest instalment after the first 20 minutes or so. The acting is so ... static? I couldn't look past it, it just completely ruined the world for me.
THE MARTIAN - 7 nominations
- I enjoyed this a lot! It's a good bit of sci-fi, it has heart and humour and excitement and solid performances throughout. I recently got it on blu-ray, should do a re-watch before I go to Japan.
SICARIO - 3 nominations
- Someone recommended this to me, and it completely blew me away. It was nothing like what I expected, but in a good way! Well worth a watch.
SPECTRE - 1 nomination
- This made me go back and re-watch all the new Bond films (Daniel Craig era). They're so good, though???? Hahahaha. Bonus points for Christoph Waltz, of course.
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS - 5 nominations
- Such a good cinema experience. Lots of fun, it tickled all those little creative bones that make you want to go out and create adventures of your own. Looking forward to the next one!
I went out and shopped for wine and other treats to stuff my face with during my Oscar viewing, stumbled across this wine, and it sounds perfect.
Happy weekend!
