I was invited over to an ex-coworker's place for some board gaming on Saturday. She'd invited over a couple of other people from the office as well, and it was fun to see them again. Apparently people wanted to hang out with me and wish me safe travels before I leave for Japan, awwwww.
We played
Niagara, and the Norwegian version of Cards Against Humanity.
Playing CAH in Norwegian was really uncomfortable for some reason. Everyone was really bothered by it and were reluctant to lay out cards for the first couple of rounds. I don't think the cards were any lewder than the English cards, but the lewdness read as icky rather than amusing. I guess everyone who learns English as a second language just love to be lewd in English? Perhaps this is true for all second languages? Isn't emotional distancing in second language learners a thing?
There were a couple of really creative words, though. Like "kukslurping". And some completely baffling things like "innpost i bæsjeboksen". I still have no idea what "Å ha svartball i mannemusa" is supposed to mean, and I don't think I want to look it up ....
Yeah, we got into it after a while, once we'd warmed up to the language and each other.
It was nice being able to understand absolutely all the cultural references, though. Even though they were heavy on Norwegian politicians and characters from recent children's shows. And so much nynorsk hatred! Hahahah.
We also played a round of
Bucket of Doom. Enjoyable, but not as fun as CAH. Also required more work, and super stressful for people with social anxiety since you need to make up things on the spot. It would be a good warm-up game to play before a roleplaying session, though. Hm.
I had a really good time. One of my ex-coworkers is most likely going to Tokyo this summer, because his wife wants to go to the summer Hello!Project concert. Hooooh boy, hahahaha. His wife is super adorable, and we started making plans, and I told her I could help her get tickets etc etc etc hahahaha. This should be fun. I guess I'll be going to a H!P concert this summer if everything pans out?
This reminded me that
shirenu had linked me a
こぶしファクトリー video a while back .... and I have now spent Sunday morning watching a whole bunch of their videos on YouTube. How adorable is this group, though? And the songs are so good! I love that they have official subs on YT! That is a stroke of genius. The lyrics for 押忍!こぶし魂 are great! I have decided to make the chorus my theme song for my struggles to get settled in Japan next month, haha.

I do miss following idol activities ... I guess I have found an active, major group to follow now? Good, let's see how long I'll stay with it. My fav members so far are Inoue Rei, Ogawa Rena, and Taguchi Natsumi ..... sorry, I wasn't able to narrow it down to just one. Maybe later on once I've gotten to know them a little better. Heeeeee.
Currently in a food coma, because Christian made
smashed potatoes.
Time to crash out with a film and charge my batteries for work tomorrow!
