magic_treehouse has inspired me to try and finish more of the video games in my collection. First up was Tomb Raider, the reboot title from 2013. I'd somehow left this at around 30% in. I remembered this game as a string of real time action sequences with heavy gun fighting in between some easy puzzle elements, but once I adjusted the difficulty setting, I found the gameplay got a little more balanced with pretty much equal parts tomb raiding and shooting. It was a lot of fun, the story was engaging, the environments absolutely spectacular and Lara was fantastic. I didn't own a PlayStation when I was younger, so I missed out on this franchise. I'm not sure it's worth it to go back and replay them now, but I'll be keeping an eye our for new instalments in the series for sure.
I sort of wish I hadn't already played the Uncharted games, because they feature much of the same gameplay as Tomb Raider, and it would have been a natural progression to move on to play those. But I've already played them. If you have any other suggestions for action adventure games with similar gameplay, I'd love to hear them. I started up Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, but I'm not sure I'll make it through it. The unwieldy free running controls are fiddly and make me dizzy.
I went and visited my mum on Saturday. She had invited the family over for a belated birthday gathering, and I've now had my share of family related gatherings for the year. My mum and her siblings are a noisy bunch. I also thought it was really tasteless of my aunt to break the news that she's becoming a grandmother (again!) at the party, but that might just have been me (my mum is the only one out of the four siblings who doesn't have any grandkids). I came home from the party with a massive headache and needed an extra nap on Sunday. I was totally wiped out from spending just 6 hours with my family. There is a reason I don't see them very often.
My present to my mum sucked, but she doesn't read books, she doesn't watch films, she listens to the same old music she's always listened to, she is a hoarder with too many things in storage and she's a picky eater. WHAT DO YOU GET FOR THIS PERSON? Hahahahahaha. I have given up. I did bake cupcakes, though.
Yesterday, I went and played
Rogue Trader (a Warhammer 40,000 roleplaying game) with my usual gaming group. I've played some Warhammer 40K roleplay before, but I've never played a character with psychic powers before. I ended up rolling a character that was best suited for psychic stuff (an Astropath Transcendent!), so I was given a speed course in mind probing, hahaha. It was fun, I'm looking forward to fleshing out the character and learning new skills :D I came back home and watched Event Horizon, which is a pretty perfect Warhammer 40,000 film, actually.
Most of my travel preparations have been made! I've booked an apartment with Sakura House for my first 1 month (+ possibility to extend if needed), I think I know what SIM card to get, bank stuff seems less intimidating... I've done just about all I can do from here. I leave in 27 days! Still so unreal. Next up is paying my taxes and submitting my VAT report, then I should be all set!
P.S. if anyone was wondering, yes, I tried the new sorting feature on Pottermore, and I'm still a Hufflepuff! :D
