I spent the day watching the 66th 紅白歌合戦 (Kouhaku Uta Gassen, Year-end Song Festival). It is a live music show, aired every New Year's Eve in Japan. An interesting, but depressing fact about this year's Kouhaku is it featured the lowest ratings ever:

And the guy on the left is 又吉直樹, he's part of the comedy duo ピース and after ピカルの定理 finished, he ended up doing a mixture of the variety show scene and becoming something of an author.

Man, LJ marked this comment as spam, so I didn't see it until now. I heard about the low ratings, which is really a shame. It's such an entertaining (and unique) tradition.

Thank you~~~~! I've been curious to learn more about him for forever. He's guest appeared on every random variety show I can remember ever randomly tuning into, but I've never had time to sit around and watch whole shows to catch his name, and my googling has been pitiful at best. His book was released while I was in Tokyo last summer (or right before or whatever), so the book ad was fricking everywhere, his face haunting me, reminding me that I never had a chance to look him up last year. Hahahhaha.
