Due to last night's late night shenanigans, we slept in and didn't get out until around noon. That was okay, though because our first stop of the day was Kaidou, a photo gallery which is only open on weekends from 1PM. It was a really nice little gallery, and Sato Haruna, the photographer, was really friendly and welcoming. We hung out for a little while and talked about various things. I absolutely loved her photo books and ended up buying three from her. Unfortunately the gallery will close in January next year, so if you find yourself in Tokyo before then, I would recommend going.
Having geeked out over photography we made our way to Fukagawa Matsuri, one of Tokyo's biggest summer festivals. We were extra lucky this year because it was super sized this year (happens every third year). This festival is really something else, it's definitely become my favourite summer festival. Groups carry three mikoshi around all through the day, and along the route people throw large amounts of water at the people who carry the mikoshi (and at any spectators who wants to get wet). It was super entertaining and fun. You couldn't help but get caught up in the excitement and join in.
One of the mikoshi being carried. I forgot to check up on how much this weighs, but it must be close to a ton.
Throwing water!
We followed one of the mikoshi until it reached its destination then we entered the shrine area and lost ourselves completely in all the food stalls and festival games. I had such a great time. I had so much festival food! Haha :D
