As a backer of
Abby Howard's Kickstarter earlier this year, I got early access to the intro of her upcoming comic The Last Halloween today! Abby was my favourite contestant throughout StripSearch, but I was never truly sold on this graphic novel of hers ... until I read the intro today. I am extremely excited to see what comes next, it looks very promising. I can't wait to learn more about the characters we were briefly introduced to in the teaser! And the artwork is brilliant. So there. Unfortunately, I have been sworn to secrecy, so you guys will just have to wait until the thing is actually published. Waaah.
I have actually been on a bit of a comic buying binge lately - I have a stack of unread comics waiting for me right now, with more on the way. I spent my afternoon ploughing through the first volume of
DMZ, which I bought a while back and then promptly forgot about. I just completely devoured the thing, and I definitely need more.
I also gave into my curiosity and bought the hardcover collector's edition of Before Watchmen: Comedian and Rorschach (which lived up to my expectations of what it would be, but nothing more than that) last weekend. I needed something to read on the 8~9 hour train ride from Stavanger to Oslo ... I will probably re-read at some point, and I am interested in collecting the full set. I am a sucker for good looking books.
Very recently I also bought Doctor Strange: Strange Tales (which collects a series of Dr. Strange stories from Strange Tales ... as the title also suggests), and part 1 of Osamu Tezuka's Message to Adolf. I've been interested in the latter for quite a while, but up until now I've only ever seen part 2 on display at my local comic book store.
The cover is quite striking. It's a shame they've mirrored the drawings to adapt it to a western audience, but I will live. Perhaps I can re-read it in Japanese later on.
And I'm currently reading Saga of the Swamp Thing, a collection covering the series from when Alan Moore took over the writing. I haven't read any of the earlier issues, so the first issue in this collection (#20 - Loose Ends) was confusing as hell, but the intro of #21 has me hooked. Should be a good read.
I still have
The Infinity War and X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga left unread on my bookshelf 8D aaand I have a box of various books and comics headed my way some time in the near future. Books and comics I bought during my summer adventures in Japan, far cheaper to send it by mail than to pay for extra weight on the plane. Takes a bit longer to get here, though ... I have already forgotten what books I bought!
