CANADAPHILE 1. What do you think of the new Superman?
There is a new Superman?
Actually, I am vaguely aware of this, but I have absolutely no interest in it. I have never read a Superman comic, I have watched some of the old 90s tv show iteration of it (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), but that is about it. I just don't really see what's so super about him, I guess. I can appreciate Superman as an iconic super hero figure, but that's the extent of my interest in the franchise. I have not seen any of the films, and I never bothered with Smallville either.
I was deeply fascinated with Supergirl when I was younger. My parents had the Supergirl film (from 1984) on VHS, and it's one of those films I just kept watching over and over - I loved it. I loved the costume, the fighting, and the colours. I don't really remember the actual plot. I did attempt a revisit of this film not too long ago, but I was completely taken aback by its awfulness - it was not at all what I remembered, and I couldn't even finish it 8D
I still love her costume, though.
2. When did you last read a book?
When did I last read a book? Earlier today. When did I last finish one? ... My book tag on LJ says July 12th last year, and that is probably true. I have matured into an excruciatingly slow reader. Not that it really bothers me. I have plenty of other interests and hobbies, which is why reading is always placed last on my to do lists.
The last comic book I finished was The Infinity Gauntlet (Marvel), this was last month.
3. Spring or autumn, and why?
I used to list autumn as my favourite season, but I have come to love spring a lot more. I still enjoy darkness and rain, but green things and sun make me a lot happier. Does this mean I'm an adult now? Have I shed the doom and gloom of the teenage years?
Of course spring also reveals dog crap and cigarette butts and all the things people think the snow will magically get rid of for them - so we deal with weird smells and icky, soggy paths and gardens for a month or two, but ... I guess that's just what I prefer now.
4. What did you do for relaxation today?
I sat outside at the University Botanical Garden and read Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States for a couple of hours.
This is one of those books I've been meaning to read for years. It's just stood there on my bookshelf, and for some reason I decided to pick it up a couple of days ago - I am so hooked. This is an amazing reading experience. I am sure I'll write something about this sooner or later, I just need to collect my thoughts. I am learning a lot of new things.
Learning, man. Feels awesome. I have come to realise that I miss studying. I do not miss lectures, essay writing, exams, or student life - I just miss the rush of learning new things every day. Which is good, because that means I can do something about it. Like spending an hour or two outside on a bench reading up on US history.
5. What's your favorite flower?
Cherry blossoms. I .. not sure that really counts as a flower, but it's the closest you'll get to any kind of real answer. I don't really care about flowers.
6. How would you redecorate your favourite room in your home if given infinite funds?
This question makes me smile, because I live in a one room apartment.
I've never needed a lot of space, and I prefer apartments to huge houses - it would be nice to have a separate room for office-like activities. Studying, printing stuff, photography things, more storage space for books, clothes, and games. And better air circulation, maybe add a balcony? :D Unfortunately, we can never get a balcony where we live currently - our apartment building is a listed building, so we can't make any changes that affect the facade (this is why we have weird double windows, and can't easily install things like air condition units).
But yeah, I don't know. A little more storage space is really all I would need.
7. Who would you most like to make food for you?
:| this feels like a sort of trick question. UNFORTUNATELY, I DON'T KNOW THE NAMES OF ANY AMAZING CHEFS. I'll just go with my old default answer then, Christoph Waltz. I am sure he makes awesome food.
