My bunad still fits!
Honestly I wasn't sure I wanted to even go outside when I woke up today. It was raining incredibly hard, and weather reports during NRK's traditional May 17 celebration coverage claimed the rain would continue on for the rest of the day. About an hour later, the rain stopped and we ventured outside. I brought my incredibly heavy bunad cape just in case, and of course the weather just did a 180 and it ended up being sunny and warm. I hate lugging that cape around when it's not needed. XD
We saw marching bands and tons of kids, we saw the royal family, we found Oslo's cheapest May 17 hotdogs, and we had lots of ice cream~! Great success!
Christian brought along his Cheki...
Delicious sweet and bitter ginger ice tea *O*
Soft serve ice cream with strawberry sprinkles~!
We even did some hanami at the botanical gardens - were pleased to see that there were lots of people there, all taking pictures!
Awwww yeah.
And some digital snaps;
My vampire/evil villain/wizard cape. Note the time stamp 8] Also my bling.
Finally a decent picture of my bunad, omg. We try to get some every year, but I feel the pictures never really show it off properly. Here at least you see the embroidery along the skirt. I still wear my bunad with an apron. The apron is traditionally used to show that you're unmarried, which is still true in my case (I'M A FAIR MAIDEN~~~ .....). The other option is to wear a belt of traditional bunad jewellery and hang the little pouch from that. Most girls who get this bunad choose to get the belt rather than the apron. They collect the jewellery over several years and continue to add to the belt. I just really like the colour contrast of the white against the teal and red, though. I'm not sure I'll ever get a belt for it, to be honest, I feel the skirt will feel very naked without it.
