This is the social hangout for Japanese Disney fans (or so I imagine), it's an online multiplayer experience, you can travel around in a wonderfully pixelated Disneyland town, interact with non-playable characters (or other players, if you choose to), play games, collect cards, and have a whale of a time.
I spent an entire hour in game before I realised I couldn't actually really do anything because I didn't have the in-game currency. That's how engaging this game is :|
And how do you get the in-game currency? Well, you play games to earn points which you then exchange for in-game money. The conversion rates suck ass, but hey - more time spent playing games (completely freeeeee of charge) is not really a bad thing, is it? Sure, it'll take you a BILLION YEARS to get enough in-game currency to buy the RIDICULOUSLY ADORABLE Cheshire Cat costume, but you know. At least there are games and pretty things to look at.
The electrical parade starts at 6pm.
I am in love. The park is also appropriately themed to match what's currently going on at Tokyo Disneyland. Magic Castle is currently decorated with Easter eggs and egg baskets, because the main parade at TDL currently is the Easter parade.
Sign up is completely free, but the game is in Japanese. Which I guess will be a bit of a set back for some, but the games on the site are really easy to understand. And the intro to Magic Castle has an English voice over, so you can understand the backstory! Not.. that it's needed to play the game, but hahah, I thought it was a nice touch :D
[Sign-up info] After the intro you're taken to this screen;
Which asks you to sign your name.
From top to bottom: Where you live (my selection = overseas, it's the last option on the list) Occupation (my selection = company employee) Age Gender (my selection = girl) Favourite Disney character (my selection = Cheshire Cat, it's a long-ass list, I can help out if you really want to pick your favourite, though xD) Secret question (if you lose your password or whatever, just pick something and remember your answer :P) Answer to secret question DONE!
Then you get to enter a password, which needs to be entered twice, and you get to pick an avatar and dress it up and everything.
The code on this page is your username for the login, so make a note of it! You use this code and your password to log on to the site~
And that's it :|
Click the colourful tabs over the game window to get to the games that earn you points. The tabs go: Action, Sports, Puzzle, Table (board games), Fan, Home. You get back to Magic Castle by clicking the first blue button below your avatar on the left.
You move around with the arrow buttons, and you talk to people and interact with things with Enter. Talk to Yen Sid to get some free collectible cards (top selection in his conversation bubble).
But really, just take off and play all the other games on the site to earn points :| I can warmly recommend the John Carter themed puzzle game, I had a blast playing that!
It's been ages since I had so much fun just playing silly little online games. THIS is what time wasting games are supposed to be like, none of that guilt trippy "PLEASE ADD ME AS A NEIGHBOUR, AND SEND THESE 500 BUCKETS OF GLUE TO YOUR FRIENDS, OTHERWISE I WON'T GET TO MOVE ON IN MY GAME" which Facebook thinks is what gaming is all about. Hint; that's not what gaming is about.
I'm not sure anyone's here going to try this, but I just wanted to put the word out there. I had no clue this existed, and I've been creeping around the Tokyo Disneyland Resort site for a good couple of years now.
I'm so impressed with the level of detail in this, here's me checking out the Pirates of Caribbean themed world:
It has scenes from the ride! :|
Mickey statue outside the castle (which I can't enter yet, because I don't have enough cards ...)
I went to the Stitch themed world, and was given a bathing suit and a surfboard :D hahaha it's just... what :D Aaaah Disneydorking.
It's a real shame all the collectibles in the game are so expensive (in in-game currency), because I just want to explore and DO ALL THE THINGS. Look at these graphics! I wish I could disappear into them and stay there forever.
You also get to decorate your own room, but the furniture is listed in real currency, omg. I'm pretty sure this game is also available as a mobile phone game in Japan. I know I'd spend so much real money on this if I had the possibility to play it on my phone :| That's something I usually just say, but I think I'm serious about this. DISNEYPIXELS. GIMME~
