Baby Universe: A Puppet Odyssey

Mar 31, 2011 00:06

... we are entering an increasingly dangerous period of our history... our only chance of long term survival, is to spread out into space.

Christian got us tickets to go see Baby Universe: A Puppet Odyssey. It's a play, with puppets. I knew the setting was post-apocalyptic earth, but that was it... and man, did it live up to all my expectations. No, it went above and beyond.

The performers/puppeteers were amazing, and I loved how they were both background and foreground, interrupting the storyline with "live radio broadcasts from the bunkers", like this:

The puppets were amazing as well, with a couple of real surprises thrown in. Fantastic use of sound, light, and screen projections made this an incredibly visually stimulating play. I couldn't tear myself away from the action for even one second.

I don't want to spoil the story, so I'm not going to link to the review in The New York Times, nor am I going to link to the 7+ minute long trailer put up on youtube... (you are free to look them up on your own, if you feel like it ;D) but I will say that I loved the show so much, that I'm going to jump at the chance of seeing it again. Most likely next week. People in Oslo are free to join me, I'd love to see this with a group of people~! We could even try to have meaningful conversations with RoboHawking 5000 before the show.

Yes, the show has a RoboHawking. Yes, that Hawking.

This has convinced me that puppet theatre is the best thing ever, how awesome that Oslo has its own charming little theatre just for plays like this! I've been to Trikkestallen before (with school, so ages ago 8D), but had completely forgotten about the place. I guess they mostly do shows for kids, but Baby Universe is very much aimed at an adult audience.

Uuugh, this has reminded me that there are two other plays on in Oslo that I want to go see. Dickie Dick Dickens and The Producers *o* Anyone want to join me?

events, inspiration, theatre, amazing
