I don't have much experience with conventions, in fact the only other convention I've attended was the very first Desucon back in 2006 8] I have a post, but unfortunately none of the pictures work. But for those who like to time travel,
here's my post on the very first Desucon.
Anyway, my point is... things have changed. @_@; Desucon has gone from being way too many people crammed into a small location, to being.... way too many people crammed into a huuuuge location. Hahahaha. It now takes place at Oslo Congress Centre, spans over two days, and features things like Harry Potter roleplaying and sci-fi geeking.
I am so exhausted. I wore one of my lolita dresses, with accompanying lumpy lolita shoes DX death. Aaaanyway.
Eeeugh, I don't really know what to say about the con. I think it's absolutely awesome that they've been able to make it this big, it's obvious that something like this was needed in Norway... but it's really not my scene. Haha. I got out of the whole anime thing in 2004, really.. mostly because I found I didn't mesh well with the kind of people who populated the Norwegian anime scene. *shrug* That's just how things go, I suppose. I don't dislike anyone in particular, there's no drama.. I just grew out of the whole "OMG FREE HUGS, AWWW EVERYTHING IS AWESOME, LET'S GLOMP AND HUG EACH OTHER FOREVAAAA"-thing that still seems to be going on. Also people still dress up as Naruto characters? Really?! Heh. Though I guess a lot of this can be explained by the fact that most of the con goers seemed to be between the ages 14-17 :x
The people I actually knew at the con were all working the con as crew members, so kind of difficult to hang out with them, since they needed to run off and do stuff all the time ^^; I was supposed to be on the crew last year, but my work at Edderkoppen got in the way, unfortunately. I think I'll try and sign up for con crew next year~ I think I'd probably enjoy the whole experience more if my being there had a real purpose XD Such an awesome place to go and people-watch, though. I walked around grinning and laughing like an idiot, because there were so many interesting people there xD;;;;
It bugged me that the con had no sense of collective excitement though... people tended to hang in cliques, and you could see people oogling each other's costumes instead of going over and compliment each other and babble about lolita fashion/costumes. Nothing wrong with giving each other compliments, you guys~~~ isn't that why you dressed up? Hahaha XD
I like that the con has branched out and included fantasy and sci-fi elements~ The Norwegian Trekkers were there, and so were people from the 501st Nordic Garrison (Star Wars fanclub). Hilarious to compare the two stands. I felt so bad for the Trekkers .___.; They were totally outdone by the 501st's stand. Awwww.
Of course various geek stores had set up big stands as well, but none of the items caught my interest... except for some Super Mario plushies, and a Pussy Wagon key chain replica @_@ As in an exact copy of Buck's key chain. Random item is random. I was not willing to pay 98NOK for it, though. Lol.
Anyway, have some pictures! I'll be going tomorrow as well. I'm not going to wear any lolita gear tomorrow, but I'll wear my JPH!P shirt and maybe recruit some new members? Hahahaha we'll see. XD
Unfortunately the lighting inside the congress centre was horrendous for picture taking. So these are (mostly) in black and white~
....
Me giggling in front of the Star Trek stand xD;;; Aaah LOOK, THEY HAVE A CUTE FLUFFY TRIBBLE! ♥
Aaaand here's the 501st Nordic Garrison stand :x They had set up a photo stand next to their table, where you could pay 50NOK to have your picture taken with Darth Vader and/or the other Star Wars characters the Garrison had sent to the con. lol.
They also had this babe running around promoting them *o*
Audun! :D Haven't seen him in ages, iiiih! He was part of the con crew, and had two different titles! XD Busy guy.
Espen! Convention boss~~~
Bar where you could get ramune, melon soda, grape soda, and pocky.
Crew members doing a bit of crowd control work before the big auction.. which seemed to be one of the most popular events at the con. I met
nuinre (♥!!!!) and asked her what I absolutely had to go see, and she recommended this event. It was kind of crazy.
See all those red notes up in the air? That's people bidding real money to have random fandom related items DESTROYED. Hahahaha. They had this samurai guy (with a sword and everything) who would destroy items if the item was won by a bidder who wanted the thing destroyed. People could hold up green notes if they wanted to place a bid to get to keep the item. It got kind of ridiculous. This one guy paid 300NOK ($47/€38) on three separate items. Each time to have them destroyed @_@; My favourite items were 4 tickets to the Norwegian premiere of the new Twilight film. THE SAMURAI ATE THEM. OH MY GOD, AHAHAHAHA. I had some Twilight fans next to me, who went all "D:!!!!!". Heeeeee.
They even auctioned off a watermelon. Popular item. Ended up costing someone around 180NOK to have it sliced to bits. Lots of people trolled that item by bidding on it with green notes... *sigh* XD Anyway, it was a good event, but I worry for some of those kids @_@; HOW RICH ARE YOUR PARENTS, HUH? WASTING MONEY LIKE THAT, TSK TSK TSK. xD
... and that's that. So many cosplayers and lolitas out and about in Oslo today. It was ridiculous. A couple of tourists stopped me and asked me wtf was going on. XD In addition to this, today was also Gay Pride Day here in Oslo! I missed the parade, but HAPPY GAY PRIDE, EVERYONE ♥ :D
