Tales of the Arabian Nights
I did it! With this post, I've done an LJ entry every single day this month. I spend too much time on the internet~ yaaaay XD
With Disney's Aladdin running on repeat in the bakground, Christian and I have been playing Tales of the Arabian Nights. A story driven adventure board game. It's like a lazy version of a tabletop rpg, kind of like Runebound except faster, and (in my opinion) more entertaining.
The first play-through was such a blast. The rules were easy to understand, and it plays well with only two players... which of course is a huge plus for us :D
The game relies on storytelling, but you don't have to come up with the plot yourself. It's all pretty much completely random, and the game comes with a book that contains over 2002 adventures for the game! Based on a reaction chart you flip to the corresponding page in the Book of Tales and watch your adventure unfold. My character had a bit of a rough time. 8D I started out on a quest to kill a monster on some island. Managed to do that, but I met a djinn who carried me away in my sleep to a faraway land, making me very, very lost. I was later wounded in some random encounter where I (to fit in with the culture) had to cut off my left little-finger, but I didn't have time to stop and heal, as Christian was close to winning the game ;_; AND THEN MY CHARACTER GOT SEX-CHANGED. Yes, this is a status effect in the game. You can not win while sex-changed, and the only way to lose it is to somehow stumble across an encounter that'll give you the same effect (so you need to get another sex-change). Aaaah. I laughed so much xD;;;; Ah well, at least I ended up "princely rich", which sounds quite nice :P (even though I also ended the game wounded and sex-changed (but respected!)).
But yes, Christian won (as a very strange version of Aladdin). I think we'll give this game another go tonight. The randomness of it all, and the fact that you get to choose how to respond to every encounter ("Hmmm, I think I'll abduct the friendly maiden 8]") makes it such a blast to play :D Love it~ I want to wiiiiiin XDDDD;
