I always knew Seth was a smart kid. I mean, he always had a book. But the first time I really realized that he was in my class was when I tripped over him as he tied his shoe. He looked so horrified and embarrassed I almost laughed.

Seth quickly mumbled an apology, helping me up and asking if I was okay. I was really struck by how earnest the worried look in his eyes was. Seth picked up our books, mine that had fallen and his that had already been on the floor. He mumbled another apology before running out of the classroom to make his next class.

It wasn’t until that weekend that I realized Seth had accidentally given me his book. How did I know this? Because it had his handwriting all over the inside of it. Seth had this really interesting style of writing. It looked like complete chicken scratch, but was perfectly spaced therefore readable.

Mostly it was just notes taken in class but there were some doodles from when he got bored. There was also a note. I know I shouldn’t have read it but when I saw it had my name written on the outside… well it was just like it was asking to be read.

I felt a grin growing on my lips. So Seth liked me… he was cute.

Decisions… decisions…
