Emmett ran, his hulking frame barreling past trees, chasing the lithe blond who ran laughing ahead of him. He could've easily wrapped his arms around the older man, all he had to do was lengthen his stride just a little, but he didn't want that, because for him, it was all about the hunt.
He remember clearly the first time they'd hunted alone, shortly after Jasper and Alice had joined the family, before any of them had truly known about Jazz's past; Carlisle had asked Emmett to accompany the southerner, to make sure that he stayed away from any of the well known hiking paths. Luckily it was raining, keeping the humans indoors, but even though it was Edward who could read thoughts, he could see the war waging in the blond's mind. With the town just a short run away, Emmett wasn't taking any chances, and he decided he'd just have to distract the lanky man anyway he could.
To say Jasper had been shocked would be a great understatement, for a moment, he'd even thought he was being attacked, that was until he realized the emotion radiating from the bigger man was nowhere near rage, at least that's what he'd told Emmett years after that first hunt.
Emmett was stirred from his thoughts as Jasper pounced on top of him, dropping from a branch above the dark-haired man.
"What were you thinking about?" the blond asked, head cocked to the side as he stared into the other man's eyes.
"Our first hunt together," it was only times like this, when they were truly alone, that the normally boisterous man ever became quiet.
"Oh," Jasper gave a small smile, earning one in return.
"Yeah," Emmett said, leaning up to kiss the blond's softer rose colored lips, "now let's get us some dinner!" he yelled, pushing Jasper off, and running away laughing.
