He's not sure what she sees in him. She's tall and gorgeous and sophisticated. She knows all the right things to say, all the right moves to make. She never falters. She never wavers. He feels small and awkward and like a total country bumpkin next to her. He stumbles over his words. He struggles with kanji. His skin is as dusky brown as hers is sweet caramel.
She can't understand why he chose her. He, who could have his pick of any woman, she's sure, chose her. Let her choose him, rather. He's soft and sweet and whispers things in a voice she's sure is all her own. He's powerful in a subtle way, directing their movements with a hand on the small of her back, her hip, her cheek. Watching him dance is like hearing her favorite story told over and over. He doesn't say much, but every word counts. When he laughs, his whole body shakes with the effort. His eyes are her favorite shade of chocolate brown.
It's nearly impossible to coordinate their schedules, but they make it work. It's imperfect and awkward and sometimes she wonders how long it'll last before they finally give in and realize it just can't go on like this....and then she wakes up to a dozen pink roses on her doorstep; a hastily scribbled note tucked in her cereal box; a photo text of a sad looking Satoshi on a boat somewhere with the words "wish you were here" scrolling across the bottom. It's times like that that she doesn't care if they break tomorrow, because right then and there, she has his heart and that's good enough for Meisa.
