(I don't really know how to do the fancy signal boost format thing, so ... this will have to do, so if you can help with that, please tell me).
As some of you know, my Nana (pictured above with me) died of a massive heart attack on Feburary 26, 2012. This was something that was completely unexpected as she had been given a fairly clean bill of health just weeks before this happened. She had a history of heart issues (bypass, stents, heart attacks, etc) but had been doing really well for awhile.
The night before it happened, she posted a status on Facebook and something just seemed ... off. I knew she hadn't been feeling well and had been tired, but something didn't seem right. Around 5am the next morning, my cell phone began to ring. It was my mother. She asked to talked to my grandma, so I gave the phone to her in my half asleep phase.
As soon as my grandma started to say "I'm sorry", I knew what was going on.
I took my phone back and crawled into bed.
About an hour and a half later, it was confirmed that Nana had died of a severe heart attack. There was a 90+ percent blockage and she was in the Cath lab when she coded. They did CPR for awhile before my mother and her brother (Uncle Karl) decided that there wasn't anything else the were going to be able to do.
They had to let go.
The year before, my Nana walked in the Sacramento Heart Walk.
This year, I am walking in her memory. The walk is at the end of the month in William Land Park. In all honesty, I kept going back and forth about doing this because I wasn't sure if I was ready to face it yet. In a lot of ways, it hasn't sunk in that she is gone. I miss her terribly.
As an individual, my goal is to raise at least $150.00 and it would be mean the world if you could help me out in any way that you possibly can. This walk is important to me - not just to honor the memory of my Nana, but because this entire situation put me in a spot to realize that I need to work on my own health so that I don't face the same issues down the road as so many other people do.
