What is Love in a Box?
Love in a Box is a 24-hour service project. The persons participating in this project collect donations and sponsorships to live in a box for twenty-four hours.
Who can participate in this service project?
Any student on campus. Just show up with your box and the allowed items detailed in the rules.
Who does this benefit?
Love in a Box benefits local homeless shelters. Omega Phi Alpha has given the proceeds to different shelters throughout the years. Last year and the year before, we raised over $500!
How can I get involved?
Collect donations from friends, family members, coworkers, and your fellow students. Tell them what you are going to do. Bring your donations to the event (along with your box and allowed items), and live in your box! If you cannot come to the event but want to participate, you may make a monetary donation, bring food to the participants, or stay for as long as you can.

THE RULES
The purpose of this project is not only to raise money for the homeless, but also to raise awareness. This is an annual project for Omega Phi Alpha, and has always done well in the past. Sisters of Omega Phi Alpha look forward to this project every year. This year is the first year that we have invited the whole campus to join us in this project, and we are hoping to receive a lot of interest. We also hope to have a large number of people participate in the project. The more that participate, the more money that gets raised for local homeless shelters.
By raising awareness of homelessness, participants of this project will be homeless for the day. This includes the absence of luxury and things that we take for granted every day. It's interesting to live a day without your cell phone, television, or computer. It's frustrating to live a day without knowing how you will receive your next meal. When we take the focus off of our luxuries, we focus on the people around us. This explains why sisters of Omega Phi Alpha have bonded so well through this project. You are able to learn things about a person you never knew before. You will also make new friends. Living in a box for twenty-four hours does not sound appealing at first, but you will feel a huge reward after you have done so. Not to mention, you WILL have fun!
Participating members will inhabit a box for twenty-four hours on the designated date. You will stay in the box the whole time, except for 10-mintue breaks every hour. You will not be allowed to bring food for yourself (unless you have a medical condition that requires special attention). You may have friends or family members bring you meals.
YOU MAY BRING:
Sleeping Bag and/or blankets and sheets
Pillow
Your homework
One luxury item (deck of cards, board game, book)
Bottled water
Change of clothes
Your box
YOU MAY NOT BRING:
Any electronics (no iPods, CD players, DVD players, laptops, etc.)
No cell phones. There will be one cell phone present in case of an emergency.
