Juliet was on the phone with Karen, Vogue Italia spread open on the bed before her as she tried to make her sister understand which dress she needed for her birthday party.

Miley walked in just in time to hear that last part of the phone conversation, but had the decency to wait until Juliet was off the phone before gushing, "Ohmygosh, I know exactly which dress you mean."

"It's awesome, right?" Juliet said, waving Miley in. "You should call my sister and explain. She says it looks like last season."

Karen was old.

"No way! It's super cute!" Miley objected. "And it would go perfectly with this Fendi clutch I just saw with bronze leather trim..."

"... oh my god, I have to go to Fendi while I'm home," Juliet decided. "An investment purse is such a good purchase."

"Definitely," Miley agreed emphatically. "Or I could loan you something, if it's for an event that's, like, super-soon? I just got a ton of stuff in LA last month that I haven't even used yet."

Juliet shook her head. "Thanks, but I'm going home for the week. I'll have tons of time."

She smiled, setting the suitcase aside. "How have you been?"

"Pretty good," Miley said, coming inside and taking the liberty of flopping down on Juliet's bed. "So jealous you're going home for the whole week. I don't get to leave till Tuesday afternoon." She sighed like this was the hardest thing a person could have to live with. "Portals."

"Ugh," Juliet agreed, sympathetically. "So you'll be here all by yourself?"

Said as if that was even worse.

"I guess," Miley said, sighing wearily. "There are probably some people who aren't going, though, right?"

God, she hoped so.

"I don't know?" Juliet admitted, frowning. "I mean, there should be,right? They can't make us go to Canada if we don't want to."

"Hopefully," Miley agreed. "'Cause, you know, building houses? I am so in support of the people who do that, but my charity things are more... helping get puppies adopted."

[twintuitionist]

"Helping the less fortunate is important," Juliet said, piously, then sighed. "I just don't do manual labor. We could put together an awesome benefit without going to Newfoundland."

"Yes! Exactly!" Finally, someone who wasn't jumping all over herself to paint fences. "I mean, hello, the point of benefits is to make charity fun instead of... icky."

And Canadian.

"Right. Plus, it's just going to be so boring," Juliet complained. "What will they do when they aren't, you know, hammering things? Chasing moose for a week is so not a vacation."

"Seriously," Miley agreed. "Or, like, having your bus break down and playing charades with your brother for six hours outside of Niagara Falls. Lame."

...that was maybe specific to just her.

"Sounds it," Juliet said, wrinkling her nose. "And you were on a bus, so it would have sucked to start with."
