TUTORIAL #017

STEP #001
FULL IMAGE
Prepare your base. Crop, resize and extract the background. For the full effect of this icon I suggest to use the Blur Tool around some parts of the subject. I'll call this the "Base Layer".


STEP #002


Add a New Fill Layer under the Base and Fill it with Black.


STEP #003


Now duplicate your base three times. You'll have three layers plus the base. Put the duplicates under the base. Now fo to Blue - Radial Blur. Amount: 50, Spin and Best. Apply this effect in all three duplicate layers. Or the easier way: Duplicate the base layer, apply the Radial Blur and Duplicate it Twice.


STEP #004


Now between the three bluerried layers and the Base Layer add a Gradient Map Layer. The gradient you'll use for this will have these settings:
Position 0% - Color #010e5c
Position 74% - Color #010e5c
Position 100% - Color #0072b6.

Set the Opacity of this layer to 75%.


STEP #005


Now above the Gradient Map layer add a Hue/Saturation Layer.

Masters
Hue +8
Saturation -34
Lightness -21



STEP #006


Add a New Layer under the Base Layer and Above the Hue/Saturation Layer. Using the color White pick one of these Ornamental Shapes from this Brush Set by sya @ DA and add somewhere around the subject. Erase some parts and set the Opacity of this Layer to 25-35%.


STEP #007


Duplicate your Base Layer.


STEP #008


Now Duplicate your Base again and put this Duplicate Layer above the Base Layer. Play around with the Smudge Tool to make a smoke-ish effect. Set this Layer to Screen.


STEP #009


Now follow the coloring from this (#11) tutorial. Step #008 until Step #015. The only change is in the Step #008 layer. The opacity here for the Gradient Fill Layer is 100%.
