Warning: Rant

So I'm fine.. just a little surgical site pain but otherwise good. I'm waiting for someone to come and discharge me. Apparently they don't do that in a timely manner here.

A whole flock of med students just came in with 2 doctors from "THE TEAM".. no clue which team but I guess this was teaching rounds. That was my first experience with being the subject of teaching rounds.

So I started to tell my VT story. People need to know my story, especially med students. They listened intently.. I think they were totally not used to (gasp) a patient who talks like me..

I got out most of my story and then the attending puts her arm on my shoulder and tells me they would love to hear all my story but they need to move on.

I'm pissed off. There have been studies showing that the average physician will cut off a patient after 15 seconds in a patient enounter. GOD FORBID you let the patient talk!! To her credit I was talking for 3-4 minutes when she cut me off but what kind of example are you setting for your med students when a patient with a ONE IN A MILLION story wants to tell her story and you cut her off??? We are the almightly god like physicians and we must move on because we are so important and we don't have time to listen to you, the peon little patient whom we must make all the decisions for because we are so godlike. What kind of example is that setting?? How egomanical can you get??? Let's perpetuate the god like physician stereotype that we are so important.

I dont know why I am so upset about this.. I dont even know who these people are but they were very disrespectful to me. Is that what they teach in Harvard Medical School??? Egocentrism??

I went and wandered around in the hall and tried to catch the attending away from her flock so I could tell her off but she was never away from her flock and then they left the floor.

How rude.
