I can't get it off me - I've tried cutting the string, washing my hands, sticking my hand in the freezer, dousing it in crisco - NOTHING works. I'm fresh out of ideas

I agree it is very peculiar. I have been following it for some time, and it appears to pass through whatever obstruction is placed before it. Thus far its path seems to continue well outside the hotel.

You may be interested to know that movement in any direction opposing the string is the cause of that pain. I attempted to determine the direction of both Rise and Kanji's thread, which only resulted in extreme pressure being placed on my own. That sensation has lifted almost entirely as I pursue my own string's path.
