The sun wasn’t even visible through the blocking mountains; he could hear the shuffling of his wife getting ready for his early morning shift. Jonghyun propped his elbows up and watched his wife prepping himself for the other men at work, once he was in arm’s length he pulled Kibum down onto the bed,” Must you go to work today? I was really looking forward to eating your special ramen.” He got up and fixed a piece of hair,” I know. That’s why I made a pot already for you, so no complaints, I’ll be late for work.” Jonghyun pouted admitting defeat, why did Kibum have to go to work today out of all days? It was their one year for crying out loud, hey, maybe crying out loud would work. His dainty wife slipped on a watch and came closer, putting his lips right in front of his,” Kiss. Mwah, I love you Jong. Happy one year!” He nodded heavily and went to the door to follow the wife out, he slipped on his shoes and Jonghyun tied them, giving out useful advice,” Don’t talk to strangers, don’t smile to anyone, don’t talk to anyone unless they ask if you are married, then absolutely say you are taken. Wait, where’s your ring?!” He ran back to the jewelry box and took out the gold band, laughing while placing it on the slim finger. The husband patted the hand and went in for a tight hug,” Remember, the ramen is done, and I made a cake so turn the oven off in thirty minutes. See you later, Jong.” He nodded and watched as he left the house and drove away in the car, smiling and hoping he remembered the advice he gave him. Time for a nap? Yes, time for a nap.
I was sleeping well until my phone rang loudly between the covers; I picked it up at the blurred sight of the name on the screen: Darling. “Hi darling! What are you doing now?” a giggle escaped into the speaker and he was startled,” Who’s that?” Kibum’s voice slowly went back to normal,” Oh it’s no one, did you take out the cake yet?” Crap, the cake, I totally forgot! I shuffled over to the kitchen with only one slipper on, muttering ‘uh huh’ into the device, the heat steamed on my bare arms and I took the steaming cake out. Kibum ended with a quiet,” Okay, I love you, bye!” I closed the phone and went back into the room to fix up the bed. He fixed the pale yellow covers and matching stuffed animals, fixing everything that looked even a tad wrong. There was really nothing to do when his wife was gone, minutes went by like hours for the lonely husband, and he needed a job. But who could possibly get a job in this economy? So he was left home alone while his wife worked two shifts at his very loyal job, and barely had enough time to cuddle unless it was the weekend. But today was a cruddy day to have a job, even if he was coming home early today, they should have a whole day together. He glanced at the clock, two more hours to go!
He got out of the apartment and headed for the nearest florist, a bouquet would be needed in this situation, and so would perfume. He entered the small shop full of flowers and took the first bouquet he saw, it had his favorite flowers, buttercups. Jonghyun looked at the lady behind the counter and gave her the vase full of flowers, she looked up with knitting eyebrows, he chuckled,” One year anniversary, really very special.” He held out his left hand to show off the tiny gold band with pride, she took her hand into his,” Ah, our Jonghyun is so romantic, make sure to come back and tell noona all about it.” He nodded and his nervous laugh escaped,” Alright, I promise, only if you give me a discount!” She nodded and took off twenty percent of the final bill,” Congratulations Jonghyun-ah! Tell Kibum to visit more often, I need his expertise!” He waved and went next door to the perfume store, he knew exactly what kind of cologne he would pick for his loved one.
It was exhausting, picking out flowers, cleaning the house, AND decorating the cake. Shouldn’t the wife be the one to do this? It’s alright, it’s our one year, I can’t believe it, one whole year of being together. I was lying in bed trying to get out all my tiredness when the front door creaked open. My body shot up and I looked down at the puppy who also shot up at the sudden sound,” He’s here! He’s here Byeulroo, let’s go see mommy!” I took up Roo and put him on the ground to walk on its own four feet, our child was getting big, so heartwarming. I was probably more excited than our own dog, I ran out of the room and jumped into his arms,” Yeobo! What a long wait, happy one year!” He smiled and readjusted my body so it turned into a piggy back ride. He made his way over to the kitchen, eyeing the cake and stealing a finger full of icing,” Wow! Wow! Yummy, did you make this all by yourself?” I nodded and let my head nuzzle into his neck more, his scent was still lingering after work,” Yes! And I even used the vegetable cutter today, it’s really useful! I’m glad you’re home darling.” He looked at the table that was made neatly and had edible food,” Ooh! That is really pretty; you are so good with these kinds of things, huh?” He let me down and went into the room to change into comfortable clothes, I snuck into the closet and took out the flowers and cologne, setting it on the couch. He came out with sweats and a hoodie, he sat down next to me unaware of the presents under his bottom, but then he shrieked,” Yah! What is this? Oh.” He took the flowers in his hands and smelled them, immediately finding water and a vase to place them in. Actually, I am kind of worried that he would start crying, every time a plant dies he starts crying. But he smiled and started unwrapping the small box, his eyes turning into wide saucers and he grinned,” Aw, hunny you didn’t have to!” He squirmed in his seat and I glanced at him,” Bo bo! No, kiss!” I puckered up and he softly pressed his lips against mine. He draped his legs over mine and went to taste the food,” I told you the vegetable cutter was useful. How can you make such a wonderful salad without it? It’s really tasty hunny, I love you.” He stabbed some fruit and it went into my mouth, it was good, and I made it.
I put in a new romance movie and put the popcorn in my lap, slowly putting my head in his lap; he grabbed a few pieces and crunched them in his mouth. He was getting really into the movie, he always does. I watched how the light hit him perfectly in the dimmed room, the curves in his lips were pure heaven. Those high cheekbones were so defined that it was a crime to look at them, and his eyes, his eyes were seductive and innocent all at the same time. His hand stroked my hair and I continued watching the movie, my face snuggled closer into his lap and his warmth filled my cells. So this is what it’s like to be married . . . I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Happy one year darling.
