"Back in my day we'd have one set of tenth generation fansub VHS tapes to share amongst everyone, and we'd like it."
Based off of a random conversation I had with Silas. But really, I remember in high school when one of my friends got a fansub of the Sailor Moon Super S movie and it was like the greatest thing ever. And all of us had to pass it around and share it. And then we attained the first couple tapes of K.O. Century Beast Warriors, which was really fun I'd still like to see the whole thing. And up in D.C. I opened memberships with different places that had fansubs to rent just so I could rig up my VCRs and make copies of Utena, RG Veda, and Miyuki-Chan in Wonderland. And I remember watching an umpteenth generation Laputa tape where one could barely make out the subtitles. And then there were the days of downloading on KaZaA, which was still tricky. Then I still had to make copies of Li's Sailor Moon Stars and Berserk tapes to be able to have those series to watch. Fandom newbies today have it too easy.
