Floating...

For the first time in my adult life, I am still undecided how to vote on election day.

I could be roughly described as a pragmatic socialist - natural Labour, but I tend to vote tactically in this over-privileged Home Counties constituency to try to keep the Tories out (usually unsuccessfully).

I have no enthusiasm for Labour in Parliament right now - but that isn't what we're voting on.
In the county elections, I may vote LibDem - the Tories will probably win the county as usual, but locally, I think it's a bit closer. The Labour candidate for our ward, a former City Mayor, is actually okay, but doesn't have a snowflake's chance in Hell of winning here. Although the LDs are good on some issues, they can be real bastards at a local level, just as keen on cutting services as the Tories they profess to oppose, and ideologically, every time I think I might be coming round to their point of view, I get put right off by their free-market principles.

For Europe, I might vote Green. we actually have a Green MEP in the South-East, and although they tend to be idealistic hippies on economic issues, having a green conscience in Europe is a good thing. Caroline Lucas, the MEP, is now leader of her party and has been voted ethical politician of the year twice by the Observer. So yeah, probably Green for Europe.

The BNP and IKIP seem to be really busy round here this time. Wonder if any of that effort will be translated into votes? There certainly are enough Mail readers in these parts...

No poll cards have arrived at our house. Hope that doesn't affect anything.
