John Paul II...may he stay in the hearts of the people throught out the world.
I am so lucky to say that I have been blessed by the Pope. I attened the last World Youth Day in 2002, that John Paul II took part in. World Youth Day took place in Cananda in 2002. It was a week long. Everyday I would attend classes, concerts, masses, and I was able to meet youth from around the world who shared the same religion as me. There was over a million people who came together that week to celebrate a faith in front of the world. The energy of such an event is hard to describe. During the week I saw the Pope three times. Thursday night, the start of the main World Youth day events, one night for a vigil and then of course Sunday morning for mass.
A rope for a gate and a row of officers were the only things in between me and the Pope. He was actually about five feet away from me. That was so great!! Imagaine...standing in a crowd of about a million youth and their leaders, hearing cheers getting louder as the Pope rides up in his popemobile, the cheering getting louder, (as if at a concert seeing a favorite rock band, but much greater) when the top of the car is in sight, you scream and cheer yourslef. When you actually see the Pope, you become breathless. (At least I was.) Here is this man who has done so much for the world: stopping communism, bring people for different religions together, even forgiving a man who tried to kill him, right in front of you, what are you suppose to do. My thought was i wanted to give him a hug, but of course you cant.
I pray our next pope decided to have the name Pope John Paul III, which means he will carry on the ways of Pope John Paul II. (If he decided in a name such as Pope John Paul XXIV it means he plans to follow the ways of a Pope before John Paul II. Just explainning incase you didnt know this)
John Paul II was a common man...many looked to him as if he was their grandfather...I sure did.
I will end with a chant many have chanted to the Pope around the world...
Jonh Paul II We Love You!! (he answers with John Paul II He Loves YOU!!)
