and again

To keep this association game going, and because I love to talk about myself LOL These are the words that daemonwise chose for me.

1. Confidant - As a kid, I was a really big dork. I had the big coke-bottle glasses and tried waaaaaaaaaay too hard. I cared far too much about what people thought of me. It never worked. I went through a phase in middle school where I was one of the cool kids but then in high school I moved, and once again, I wasn't. When I got to college, I realized how much it never really mattered. Worrying about if I was cool enough or if I was wearing the right clothes never helped anything. When I was in theater, a theater teacher told me something that has always stuck with me: fake it til you make it. I was really nervous about a performance, and he basically told me to pretend taht I wasn't until I believed it. It worked. And I let that carry over to my life. I didn't have tons of self confidence, but no one had to know that. Well, after awhile, you start to believe it. And now, well, there's no faking about it. It kinda goes with one of the points I made in my last post: love yourself.

2. Playful - Life is too short not to enjoy it. Why not be silly and have fun. Especially if I can make someone smile in the process.

3. Strong - One of my favorite poems is "Phenomenal Woman" by Maya Angelou. It really relates the strength of women and how they should embrace it. It's one of those things I look back on and read over when I'm having a hard time. I was raised by a strong, phenomenal woman; there is no reason for me to be any different.

4. Tall - I love being tall. I've been this tall (5'10) since I was about 13 years old. I was supposed to be about 6'1 actually. Anyway, I am the shortest in my family. My mom is 5'11, my sister is about 6' and my dad is about 6'1. So, as weird as it may sound, I'm a little self conscious about how short I am. :-P And well, I don't mind wearing heels to make me taller. I played volleyball for about 13 years, played basketball for awhile too. It helped then, as well.

5. Friend - So back to when I was a kid. Elementary school. No friends. Well, one friend. Lila Shere. We were best friends. We spent as much time together as we could. We only lived 2 blocks away from each other. And it was awesome. We  grew apart as we grew up, but I always treasured that sense of real friendship. It's important to me to be there for the people I care about. And even more so that they KNOW that they can count on me for pretty much anything. I honestly haven't had many good friends since high school. Moving to Oregon was pretty tough for me. But since moving to Portland, honestly, I haven't ever had such an incredible group of friends. <333
