TFCon Chicagoooo

First off, here's the pictures on Facebook! Woo!

For those of you in there, if you want me to take anything with you in it down, just send me a note and I'll remove it, no questions. :3

HEY SO remember when I went to Vegas and it was all, aw shit, 6 am flight, gotta be at the airport by 5 am at the latest? GUESS WHEN MY FLIGHT FOR CHICAGO LEFT!

yeah

I am kind of a moron.

Though I did manage to get at least a few hours of sleep this time, so, you know, learning? Except mostly I was just really tired because I worked all week and so had not really had a chance to properly recover from FanFest yet.

Also. I was SO PREPARED to be super polite to dad, who is always taking offense at everything, so before I was even in the car, I was chirping out HI DAD, assuming he was the one driving Mom and I to the airport, and my brother was like, hey. Whoops. WELL, I TRIED.

Got to the airport, got through security (did not need to have my head examined, though perhaps it would have been a good idea, seriously, two 6 am flights in a row, what kind of idiot am I?), the flight departing before ours was running late so they were still boarding... They did their "final call" like 8 times and somehow the couple they were waiting for never thought to alert anyone that they were there and they were coming, because shortly after they closed the doors, they ran up and started pounding on them, LET US IN. Sorry, guys, I know it sucks to miss your flight, but they've shut it. You're gonna have to get another one. The woman was extremely unpleasant and also did not seem to understand that the plane she could see out the window was not hers, but rather the next one (MINE). Whatever. She went away and they started boarding, and I guess now would be a good time to mention that I somehow coaxed my mother into coming with me both to Chicago and to TFCon, itself.

Also I completely 100% stole her jacket on the first flight because it was weirdly, freakishly cold on that plane. We landed in Detroit (?!?! NOT NEW YORK!) but didn't hang out long, then were on our way to Chicagooo, which was just a short hop. AND THEN WE WERE THERE! And I managed to remember how to get to the shuttle buses (it is kind of a maze), which I was quite proud of. Last time I was in Chicago/staying in Rosemont (same hotel, even!) was a few years back around Christmas, and I got totally lost trying to find how to get to the hotel and even tried to book myself on a shuttle bus out of desperation, but the nice lady at the desk instead gave me detailed instructions on how to get to the free one. Thank you, nice lady!

a-anyway

So we rode ze shuttle and I sent quick texts off to
musha168 and
dragondancer5150 letting them know WE'RE HERE YAY! And since Mom and I had both been up since at least 4 that morning (it was maybe 10? Not sure, don't remember), we were staaaaarved, so we gladly accepted Dragon's offer to join her (and
guardianlunnaei, Eel, and Ryo) for breakfast after we'd checked into our room.

Had a moment of confusion there, actually. After I'd checked us in, I turned around and, what? That girl is dressed... suspiciously like Castiel. I mean, I could ignore most of it, but right down to the tie, man. How odd. I THOUGHT NOTHING MORE OF IT AT THE TIME. Later, we discovered that Salute to Supernatural was also happening in the same hotel (there were like five conventions, maybe more. NONE OF THEM WERE IN THE CONVENTION CENTER LITERALLY RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET).

All but literally ran into Musha right after that and did a quick exchange of robots for plushes (personally, I feel I got the better deal there), then we threw our stuff in our room, dig some bag shuffling from carry-on to walk-around, and then were back out because PROMISES OF FOOD. Also Rodimus came with because HELL YEAH RODIMUS. Prowl stayed in the room. He would not have approved of the madness, anyway.

THERE WERE OMELETTES and so much bacon and also potatoes guys seriously it was so much food. And we ate A LOT of it. Because it was delicious and also I guess most of us were really hungry. After eating the plates (almost literally), we got lost trying to find the train stop. WE DID EVENTUALLY SUCCEED, huzzah, where we met with Dragon's friends Spikey (not-so-secretly a Ninja Turtle) and Rapunzel (who had another name but all I can remember is who she was dressed as), and after much drama, we managed to purchase passes and board a train towards Actually Chicago (Rosemont, despite what everyone, including occasionally Rosemont, will tell you, is not actually Chicago). I think we were headed for Millennium Park from the get-go, but we got off early or something and mostly wandered around hopelessly, haha. I HAD FUN, ANYWAY. And we did make it! And we made a stop for ice cream, too! Though that wasn't the original intent, I guess since we all used the bathroom it would've been rude of us to not buy something. ... that bathroom was complicated, by the way. We went in one door and they were like NO BATHROOM. So we went back one, and they were like yeah okay, here's the key, go through the hall of the building you just left and then down the stairs. So we were like, oh hey security guard we just left. 'sup?

There were several group shots, but apparently none of them were done with my camera, so hopefully someone else posts some of those somewhere?

After visiting the bean and getting dizzy, we tried (also eventually successfully, woo!) to find the Disney shop. We entertained the workers by singing along to "Be Prepared" while it played on the wall, haha. Rapunzel and Dragon both got Pascals. IT WAS EXCELLENT. We took another train over to China Town for lunch/dinner/food and it was SUPER DELICIOUS GUYS OMG. I don't remember what all was eaten, just that it was all super good. And also that the fake flowers by the bathroom seriously, seriously needed to be dusted, holy crap, haha. AND THEN. Mom had looked up places to go, and one of them was an ASIAN CANDY STORE, which we located and then BOUGHT OUT (not quite). And then we raided a junk shop, too, where Mom and I bought each other matching tea cups for Christmas. They're ridiculously cute, I'll try to remember to post a picture of mine after I get it. Also we made one last stop for tea, because Eel had really liked the Jasmine stuff they'd served us and wanted to get some.

Then we took the train aaaaall the way back to Rosemont (it was like an hour, but that's okay, my feet were tired and we got to be goofy) and literally walked up to the registration desk to pick up our badges. Seriously. No line. How the heck did they pull that one off? We weren't THAT late getting back. It was astonishing. There was something going on that night I might've had an interest in, but we ended up just hanging out and being dumb, instead, until we all decided it was way past sleepytime. Pretty sure I didn't have dinner Friday night. Could be making that part up.

Mom declared I sleep like a rock in hotels (or at least I did in Chicago). Hey, man, you start attending conventions, you learn how to pass the fuck out when you finally get to bed, haha.

SATURDAY Mom hung around the convention. She hadn't been sure if she was going downtown or not. She saved that for Sunday. The convention opened at 9, but we were slow out the door, so we didn't have much time between getting there and the first panel, which was really just the costume contest, but that was what we were doing, so. Mostly just enough time for me to go buy another plush (LAST JAZZ = MY JAZZ ohohoho) and a few keybots. THE FIRST OF SEVERAL. Now I have keybots disease. I do not want to be cured. (Actually, no, Mom and I had plenty of time to wander the dealer's room, but this was sounds more dramatic!!1!Q We bought my brother a bag of really awesome Lego pieces, because that's what you do at Transformers conventions, is buy Legos, and she baffled at the prices people ask for some of the figures - really, I baffle at them, too, but I've had more time to get used to it, what with all the BotCons.)

Anyway, the custom contest was pretty fun, and there were a few little kids who were super cute. I don't like kids much, but these ones were far enough away from me to be harmless, and also dressed up like robots, so how is that not adorable? Apparently they all got prizes, which was really nice of the staff. :3

Aaand after costumes it was JAMES ROBERTS PANEL YAAAAAY Mom ran off to get food since she has not yet been persuaded to read the comics SOMEDAY I WILL GET HER.

someday.

DURING THE PANEL THE GUY IN FRONT OF ME who could not stop fidgeting SOMEHOW CONFUSED REWIND AND EJECT. The accusatory chorus of WHO????s from the audience was pretty hilarious, though. Of important note was the discussion of what would it be if the crew of the Lost Light created a band. Rodimus would be lead guitar (except it would be unplugged because NO, RODIMUS) and vocals. Drift would write the lyrics mostly. I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT ELSE I recorded the panel I can look it up later. It was hilarious. Shut up.

Also Mom came back with food and I ate it.

Then it was voice actor panel! With Alan Oppenheimer and Dan Gilvezan. Followed by MOAR PANEL with Venus Terzo and Bob Skir, who I think imagines himself as more controversial than he actually is these days. It's okay, Bob. Dragon et al left for that one, if I remember correctly. They had to go get lunch, since they had not had someone run and get some. (Well, I say that. Really she went and got herself some food and then brought me some when she was done, because she is nice like that.) And by that point it was freaking 3 pm, so we went through the artist alley and looked at the art contest entries (which, sorry, I was mostly unimpressed by), and then went back into the dealer's room because I needed more keybots. Also Mom and I made a run to Starbucks because HOT CHOCOLATE YEAH. And, er. That's it, I think? We missed the script reading, which I'd kind of wanted to go to, but didn't really care about missing, either. WE RETREATED TO THE LOUNGE. En route, we bumped into
starrscream and ne hung out with us a bit, but then I think ne went to go watch the 1986 movie, since they were showing that, because it's not really a Transformers convention unless the animated movie plays at some point. Also Musha came and joined us after closing down her table. Also waved to
caiusmajor, who didn't stick around long but it was nice to see you again!

We talked about ducks (NO.), wizard noses (CANNOT BE UNSEEN), Prisney Dincesses (because Jecca Cannot English), and Brian Regan (who is hilarious, you should youtube some of his stuff) and we ordered food using someone's phone (possibly Lunnaei's?) and because we are idiots, we all used Transformers names instead of real ones, so actually the food was for Wing, Drift, Primus, Thundercracker, Megatron (my mom, guys, haha), Jetfire, and Rodimus Totally Prime.

Lunnaei and Ryo went to get the food and it took them like 5 days, during which we threatened to steal the food of the other people unfortunate enough to enter the lounge area while we were in it. ALSO we adopted a girl named Sophia (I think), who only came in after we were the only ones around, and you can't sit alone, it's just not right. BE ASSIMILATED.

Anyway, we eventually got work that the food was going to their hotel room, so we decided to trek through the looong, sometimes funny-smelling, endless hallway between the hotels and the convention center. They were kinda creepy. Mom had said she'd explored them Friday night and ended up running through them and I could see why. DISLIKE.

We beat the food, and then when it finally showed up, they hadn't included utensils. WHAT THE HELL, GUYS. So then there was madness as some of us tried to eat without them and some other people just went to fetch some. Mostly I remember trying not to choke on my dinner while laughing, okay.

SUNDAY Mom went to Chicago (and got lost in Macy's, apparently, because I received a whole string of texts about it, haha), found another fun candy store and a Target AND a DSW, and went to the Field Museum. I think she had fun?

I went back to the other hotel in time to witness the Grand Toilet Overflow Adventure, which was hilarious and unfortunate. You know it's hilariously awful when you call the front desk about it and the woman is just like "oh god" XD; At least it was clean water.

Ryo braved the rushing flood to break open the toilet and force the water to stop, just BARELY saving the carpeted part of the room. Seriously, there was a good inch of water on the floor. It was just lapping over the raised divider between the bathroom and the rest of the room. When the maintenance guy came, it had settled, so he didn't notice it was so wet until he stepped in it and it went into his shoes. DAT SNAKE AIN'T GONNA HELP YOU, MAN. He had the thought to turn off the water to the toilet, then ran for backup. Three of them came with a wetvac and we ran from the room, stuck between giggling and apologising.

So that was Sunday morning.

When we got back to the convention hotel, our immediate order of business was to locate the Barricade and have pictures taken. He was super pretty. Also, we walked back some Supernatural con-goers who were quite possibly literally hyperventilating and I'm sorry but I laughed so hard.

(THAT SPN CON. You could walk into the merch area for free - which Mom and I did, but everything was so expensive. Also, it was $100 each to get either, uh. Sam's actor or Dead's OH MY GOD, STILL? DEAN'S actor's I can never remember which one is which Jared, Jensen, last names autographs. And they were sold out. CRAZY.)

After that, I think we mostly hung around the dealer's room spending whatever small bits of money we had remaining. MOSTLY ON KEYBOTS AHAHAHA don't you judge me I don't have enough. We ate lunch at the restaurant/bar thing, which was a little expensive but freaking delicious (at least, my food was. Can't speak for everyone else, obviously).

At some point we ended up in my room, where I built a blanket cocoon for myself and refused to come out while Dragon read Brave Police J-Decker fanfiction to us.

AFTER THINGS CLOSED DOWN AROUND 3, we gathered in a swarm, mostly in the other hotel, to try and make dinner plans. It was complicated and I don't remember the names of everyone. Obviously our group from the night before (minus Sophia), plus Jai, and then some other people, one of whom was Dirge and I think... Goa? The human Breakdown and Knock Out, and someone else. I DON'T KNOW IT WAS OVERWHELMING. We ended up marching over to the industrial park and going to the bowling alley/restaurant, Kings, which had good prices and also wasn't up three flights of stairs LOOKING AT YOU, MEXICAN RESTAURANT. I wasn't super hungry, so I just had some mac-n-cheese bites, which were weird, but good. ... also I had a root beer float and a pumpkin milkshake. I SAID DON'T JUDGE ME THEY WERE DELICIOUS. Apparently a lot of people had never had sweet potato fries (they've been such a huge thing here in Vermont for so long, it's weird to me that some people still have not tried or even heard of them), but we ended up with an extra order of them somehow, so that was awesome. Our waitress was really nice, even though we were A LOT OF PEOPLE who needed separate checks. There were plush antics and slow-mo cat fights, because. Mom came back and joined us at some point, and took a picture of the whole lot of us minus herself because I DON'T KNOW MOM GET IN THE PICTURE. Whatever. it is 12:19 why am i still typiiiing

After we all finally had enough, we said a lot of goodbyes ;_____; and went back to our rooms.

MONDAY

Our flight wasn't until that evening, so Mom and I wandered around Rosemont. We ended up in this big mall that was almost entirely really expensive clothing stores and felt a bit out of place. There was also a Hot Topic, though, which had almost no Supernatural stuff left, though there was a pretty great "JERK" Dean shirt in the window. I did not see the entirely necessary corresponding "BITCH" shirt with Sam on it, though. FOR SHAME, GUYS. Though I did buy a pair of TARDIS earrings, they're cute, even if I'm not really watching Doctor Who anymore.

Also there were some chocolate shops, and we got free candy, which is never anything to turn down. nom nom.

We ate lunch at a Mexican place called Maria's, which we'd passed hours earlier and THE SMELL OH MY GOSH how could we NOT go there once they'd opened. It was fantastic. If you like Mexican food and are ever back in Rosemont, LOOK THEM UP. They don't have Sopa Azteca, though. /cry

airport was meh. We arrived on time, but our flight was super delayed, so I ended up falling asleep for a bit, haha. Layover in Detroit again, I grabbed a bagel for a snack because they were right by our gate and we had time. Like half the people in line, though, they'd ordered cooked bagel sandwiches and then they were like OMG I AM GOING TO MISS MY FLIGHT WHY ARE YOU TAKING SO LONG TO MAKE THE FOOD I ORDERED KNOWING I HAD NO TIME AND THAT YOU'D HAVE TO PUT IT IN THE OVEN?????? it was completely ridiculous. I kinda hate people sometimes.

BUT YEAH!

Made it home, no drama, woo.

That got kind of abrupt but it's getting really late and I have work in the morning okay? Hopefully I didn't forget anything too important! Please let me know if I did!

Also I should've written this like a week and a half ago but, you know, life.
