It's a ringing in my ear.

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

Or don't. Not like I can make you.

shini02 gave me the letter S!

Jecca will listen to about everything, so she had quite a time trying to pick only five. But she's managed! Almost.

Solitude Standing - Suzanne Vega
Solitude stands in the doorway
I'm struck once again by her black silhouette
By her long cool stare and her silence
I suddenly remember each time we've met

I absolutely love the visualizations in this song, and the way she makes solitude into a living thing. And I think we can all kind of relate to that, in some ways.

Song of the Sandman - Enya
Make a wish and when you close your eyes
I will come to you.
Dream of morning's golden light
When you and I will leave the night...

ENYA! Shut up, I am madly in love with Enya's music. This isn't one of my absolute favourites, but it starts with an "S" and it has lyrics and they're in English. It's a lullaby!

Stars - The Cranberries
I love you just the way you are
I'll have you just the way you are
I'll take you just the way you are
Does anyone love the way they are?

I don't have much to say about this one! I like this song, I like this band, yay. And the first two are a little mellow and I wanted something slightly more upbeat.

Sometimes It Be That Way - Jewel
And I'm sorry I snuck up on you from behind
Sorry not all my love letters did rhyme
And I'm sorry that Jesus died for my sins
And I swear to God
It won't happen again

I really like Jewel's older stuff. Most of it's really fun to sing along when so long as there's no one around to suffer having to witness my feeble attempts at carrying a tune. This one is full of completely irreverent and insincere apologies, and it really quite amusing. She's not sorry in the least for any of it. (The booklet that came with the CD says the false start is Jewel forgetting the opening lyrics.) ....These are all female vocalists. I'll pick something non-female for the last song.

Sing for Absolution - Muse
Lips are turning blue
a kiss that can't renew
I only dream of you
my beautiful

This song is kind of creepy and a bit eerie and almost hypnotic. The video that goes with it is a little odd. I don't really have much else to say for it.

* BONUS!
Shrine of Controversy - Ecco: Defender of the Future
Okay, look, I refrained from hitting you with Everything Soundtrack in the actual five, and at least half of my slightly huge music collection is soundtrack, I'm allowed. (Did it have to be Ecco? YES.) Anyway. "Shrine of Controversy" is the first stage after things really hit the fan, the first level of the second act (out of four). The music sounds so mournful to me. This level scared me witless the first time I played it. It still scares me. I literally cannot surface for air - I spend the entire duration refilling at bubblers and by picking up the Power of Air booster. It's not that it's actually frightening, though. Everything is broken down and dying, decaying. It's a permeating sense of wrong that seeps into you and puts you on edge, waiting for something - anything - to happen. But nothing ever does.

Though there is something fantastically creepy about old, abandoned machinery.

...Yay!

music, noise for you!, mememememe... meme me
