Never the appropriate response.

[22:03] JeccaAM: demon brain-infector.
[22:03] (Aniko's AIM name removed!): yay \o_o/

Anyway, I have decided to point this out, because I'm not sure I have before, and it's not something that's apparent, but is something I like doing. Whenever I post a finished piece, I fill in all the fields. Why? It's not actually a post. Why should my mood, music, or location matter?

Actually, the fields are more connected to the story. The location and mood are probably pretty self-explanatory, but maybe not the song. That's generally more what the title of the song evokes. (For example, the lyrics of Everywhere I Go don't necessarily fit with "Prodding," but the title kind of does. Vertigo's lyrics aren't necessarily relevant, being about some club or something, if I remember correctly, but vertigo fits pretty well with Okame's freak out.)

I realise it's entirely possible no one cares about that, but it occurred to me earlier today while trying to brainstorm names for the newest Project that I'd never pointed it out and I felt like sharing.

Jecca's admittedly warped reasoning for the music choices follows. Some of these are just quotes from the lyrics that influenced the choice.

Note: not intended as a reading soundtrack. (In same of these cases, as said, I selected it solely because of the title.) Apparently meaning as determined from the video and actual meaning, assuming it's known, should generally just be ignored.

"GT" / Alt-verse works:
"GT"
Nothing In My Way - Keane (lyrics)
And why d'you say
It's just another day, nothing in my way
I don't wanna go, I don't wanna stay
So there's nothing left to say
/
For a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time
Wiki says the artist's been quoted on giving this song's meaning, but I'm ignoring it. This was a different song for a while. I toggled between the originally listed one and this, went with the other, and then changed my mind. The quoted lines are primarily the reason, as they fit better (and there are more of them) than the original song's. The whole song, and especially the first quoted bit, feels like it fits the last scene, in its own way.

And I see Mirage as a fairly lonely individual - he doesn't quite fit in with the other Autobots, that's canon - but he comes to sincerely enjoy his time stuck with Clarkson.

Sympathy
Talk - Coldplay (lyrics)
I'm so scared about the future
/
Let's talk
Mostly chosen on the title, but there's also - to me, and this is all about me, anyway. So there - a bit of a feeling of uncertainty in the lyrics, and there's a feeling of uncertainty in "Sympathy" as well. Sure, we all know how things came out, since that was written over a year after the accident, but, you know... (I'm still a little uncomfortable for having addressed it. I don't know. Something about it bothers me, is all.)

Prodding
Everywhere I Go - Shawn Mullins (lyrics)
Everywhere I go you know
Take it with me
Despite the quote, there, this was based completely on the title. Once Mirage gets back to base, he thinks everything's over with, but it seems like everywhere he goes, Sideswipe is there harassing him about Top Gear.

Though, you know, there's a double meaning for the people I accidentally made to ship Mirage/Jeremy Clarkson. And that cracks me up. A LOT.

On Names
Shut Your Mouth - Garbage lyrics)
Just shut your mouth
If you can do it
Again, mostly title based. There's a lot of wishing Clarkson would just shut up on Mirage's part. In "On Names," the percentage of time Mirage spends feeling that is... fairly high.

Final Fantasy XI:
An Evening in Buburimu was written and posted before I started this trend. I've considered going back and changing the song, but I've never gotten around to it.

Men and Moogles
The Flame - Cheap Trick (lyrics)
Because if you're going to be absolutely ridiculous, you may as well to go all the way. Sappy love song FOR. THE. WIN.

Daggers, Things (double post)
The Kingdom of San d'Oria - FFXI (link is to a download) (instrumental)
Because it's FFXI, and each features one of my characters, and all of my characters are from San d'Oria, and they're too different for one song to match them both, anyway. To be honest, I'd probably have used this song for both, anyway. If not, maybe Ronfaure or the Mog House theme, but pieces actually from the game, regardless.

Jade/Okame-verse:
Unnamed was written and posted before I started this trend. I've considered going back and changing the song, but I've never gotten around to it.

Endtil
Inner Universe - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (lyrics)
I am Calling Calling now, Spirits rise and falling
To stay myself longer...
/
Stand alone... Nothing's real anymore and...
(This is the Silent Hill crossover, by the way.) It's always felt to me that the lyrics have matched up with Okame fairly well. The title was what made the final call on this, since she kind of lives in her own, seemingly-internal universe most of the time.

Taste
Vertigo - U2 (lyrics)
Hello, hello (¡Hola!)
I'm at a place called Vertigo (¿Dónde está?)
It's everything I wish I didn't know
Except you give me something
I can feel, feel

To me, the sounds in this song do actually manage to convey a sort of sense of vertigo. The lyrics are a bit disjointed, or feel incomplete in a few places, and the breaking up of the lines all kind of lead it into feeling sort of like some sort of head-trip to me. (I like the song, but you'll never catch me listening to it while driving.)

"Taste" is Okame freaking out over... toothpaste. Because you never know what's going to set her off. When she has one of her episodes, though, reality completely warps, and there's usually quite a bit of disorientation on her part. She doesn't like it.

Also, Okame very, very rarely has freak-out when Jade is in the immediate vicinity. Jade is something of a stabilizing point, though no one's quite figured out why. She's completely uncontaminated by whatever is it that causes Okame her troubles.

...eeugh, a spider just ran across the floor.

Edit:
