Summary: Sometimes Satoshi wished he were a better leader.
Disclaimer: It was incredible. I had this bizarre ‘Freaky Friday’ type incident, switched bodies with Riida, and discovered this was all incredibly true. Okay...so maybe I helped a little in making it true, but nonetheless...Seriously, I don’t know these people, I don’t intend to imply anything about these people, and no libel/slander is intended by this trifle of a story.
Author’s Note: This is my first RPS story in something like five or six years and definitely my first Arashi fic so this is really strange to me. All feedback is appreciated.
Satoshi couldn’t pretend to know how long it would last.
It felt almost inane to hope it would last forever. This thing-whatever it was between them-started almost by accident, and while it was true that Satoshi had always had less than platonic feelings for Sho, he never actually thought anything would come from it. Sho, as far as he could tell, had never given Satoshi any indication that his crush was reciprocated. Truthfully, he was still in shock that Sho had fallen into this tryst at all, because Satoshi wasn’t stupid. He knew he wasn’t as good-looking as Jun and he wasn’t nearly as close to Sho as Aiba, and honestly if anyone in Arashi was looking at his direction, it was probably Nino, but Nino’s obvious feelings for him were something he didn’t even want to think about right now because that opened up a whole other can of worms better left for a time when he felt more emotionally stable.
More than anything, he really had just wanted to be there as a friend. As Arashi’s leader, Satoshi generally felt compelled to step in a make things right when any of the other four seemed down or frustrated or just not themselves. Sho was no different, or so he had thought, and it wasn’t hard to see that he wasn’t in the best mental state these days. He’d been worried about Sho and his growing variety of insecurities for some time now and the longer it went on the more his concern exploded into a nagging need to take care of him.
He hadn’t meant to kiss him. He hadn’t expected Sho to kiss him back. Satoshi wasn’t prepared to take the reigns in a new relationship that he wasn’t even sure was a relationship, and he sure as hell didn’t expect Sho to go along with it. Whatever he had intended or was prepared for was nothing like what did happen, though, because he did kiss him. Sho had kissed him back. It escalated in something that had no real definition, and now Satoshi was in charge.
It had gone all right-at first-before Satoshi found himself openly expressing his feelings more and more like they were word vomit, and feeling his insides shrivel up every time Sho received them with an unsure expression and silence. It had gone all right before Satoshi started to question everything he said and did-before Sho started freaking out about the sex. Before Sho started freaking out about pretty much everything, really, now that he came to it, because if Satoshi didn’t hold the reigns tightly-if he didn’t take complete control-Sho could name a thousand and one reasons why he didn’t want it. Sho would pull away the sweeter he became and drew closer the more he asserted dominance. Sho said he was scared, took off, and then came back only to talk about how bad it all was, but the second Satoshi tried to let him go Sho said he wanted to stay. It had only been three weeks.
Satoshi looked across the darkened bedroom and inhaled sharply on his cigarette. The smoke rose, curled, and mingled with the warm, night air before disappearing through the open window. Across the room, Sho rolled over in bed, released a light snore, and then the slow, comforting rhythm of his breath resumed; Satoshi relaxed.
In the end, Satoshi figured things would run their course, and whichever way it went, that would be okay. As long as he did his best he could have no regrets. It was all he could do, anyway, so there was no point in worries or to hope for anything more. And if he needed to hold the reigns a little tighter, he supposed he could do that, too, when he reminded himself he was doing it for Sho.
Sometimes Satoshi wished he were a better leader.
