[He stands by the fireplace and looks into the envelope, double and triple checking.]

[He looks up at Kirk slowly.] I never thought I would miss her as much as I do. I'm old, Jim. Old enough that I stopped getting attached to individuals a long time ago. Roberta tried to change that...

[Jim watches him for a moment, thinking. It is not the choice he would make. But he also knows he cannot choose for another.]

[He smiles.]

[He sighs and shrugs.] I'll try to believe that we write our own endings, no matter what happens. If this doesn't work, well, this is just someone else's version of how it goes.

[He tosses the envelope into the fireplace, watching the flames lick up around the paper. Then, after a couple of moments, drops to the floor.]
