Hardison gave his journal a rest after coming to the conclusion that Parker was no longer in Peaksville. He had finally become disillusioned with the town. It had been a playground for a lot of his favorite characters. Maybe if it hadn't all started with the promise of residing with a favorite person from his life then he would've probably been fine. Wait. He was fine. Alec assured himself that he was fine. The Twilight Zone was a half hour episode. This all couldn't go on for that much longer.
Needing a distraction, he went ahead and dressed in his uniform then headed down to open up shop. Breakfast was the most important meal of the day but Hardison had no idea where he could make that happen. It didn't make much sense to leave the shop so soon after opening up. No one else had joined him. In fact, there wasn't a soul in sight for the ten minutes that he looked out.
And there was one. A blonde. Not the one he was looking for but someone. Hardison lifted a hand in a little wave. There was something familiar about the woman. He wasn't sure if she was friend or foe. He was hoping for friend. Hell, he was hoping she noticed him waving. His movement was as timid as he felt. With a little sadness thrown in. He watched tentatively. "Good morning!" Hardison called out.
Ashley had been oblivious to his waving until he'd called to her. Whilst she'd been walking and even looking not much had really registered with her, just enough so that she didn't fall or trip. Once he had her attention she stopped, then turned to be closer to him - there wasn't really sense in calling across the square when it was just them around, anyway.
"Uh, hey." Ashley didn't recognise him and since the journals weren't entirely helpful she had no idea if she'd ever spoken to him before - hell she didn't even know his name. "Guessing by the shop you've been dragged into this too?" Wow, someone was actually working. That... was a sort of surprise - she didn't expect them all to picket it.
Her hesitation made him wonder if he should've left well enough alone. However, it was nice that she didn't simply holler back and continue on her way. Hardison was in dire need of a distraction from his sullen thoughts that Parker had abruptly exited Peaksville.
"Yep. Name's Har--Alec," he corrected himself as he extended a hand. His name badge understandably held his first name, not his last. "Alec Hardison. Impromptu Peaksville Repairman, at your service." His lips formed a polite smile and he met her eyes with an innocence not self realized.
Hardison had an almost shy way of meeting the opposite sex unless he was working a con. He considered pulling some kind of heist in Peaksville, if only to get Parker's attention and have her come out of hiding. Even if it attracted the wrong kind of attention from West.
She shook his hand, giving a quick look to the store behind him before back at him and smiled at his job. Impromptu Repairman, wow they really were going all out, community... things and everything. Well, good for him? At least if he could do it, even better if he didn't have to because... well that wasn't playing into their hands? She didn't know.
"Ashley... Magnus." She tacked her last name quickly on, though it didn't really have any effect or mean anything here. "Repairman? That's... is that anything like what you used to do?" If he had been a repairman at home then kudos for him, though it was doubtful. The only thing similar about her and a cop was using a gun, and she was definitely better at that than most cops.
BAH, sorry so long to tag. Browser ate it 3 times. :(alec_hardisonMarch 5 2011, 06:02:53 UTC
Magnus? Magnus. Magnus. ...His mind was so preoccupied that Hardison couldn't place where he knew the name from. If at all. She took his hand and he politely returned her smile. His was a little sad but nothing she would probably notice since he was a complete stranger to her.
"Not really. I have a knack for electronics and I've fixed ...things on occasion but--yeah, I guess you can say it's something like I'm used to be doing. How about you? Do you..." Do anything? No. That's not right. "...have a job here?"
Maybe she was one of West's minions. Her name was so familiar but Hardison wasn't having any luck placing her. He leaned against the counter and watched her with attentive eyes.
sorry for my late!notthatnormalMarch 11 2011, 14:57:25 UTC
"Sounds like someone I know." What she'd give for him to show up, even annoy her a little just to try and rescue her - not that she couldn't herself. Yet.
"Yep, not exactly planning on doing it though." And Ashley was very strong willed, so anything less than West forcing her - and it would take considerable force - wouldn't motivate her to do it. "I'm a cop, apparently. Not exactly sure where they got that from." She was nothing like a cop at home.
OMG, friggin LJ notif FAIL!!! >_< Good to keep going or wanna wrap this up?alec_hardisonMarch 16 2011, 03:05:21 UTC
"Oh yeah?" Hardison immediately perked up and asked earnestly. He couldn't gauge by her expression or tone if Ashley was fond of the person. The conversation had continued where he never had a chance to find out. Least, not yet. Internally, he was amused by her words and the fact that he had been looking for a blonde--here she had appeared. There was something to that. He could feel it.
...She was a cop but apparently seemed opposed to the idea. Hardison swallowed and wondered why the woman was so against it. He had played his fair share of law enforcement while running cons. "You don't think it's cool to play law enforcement? I mean, next to West--you'd be the boss in town. I think."
