Four days ago, as
Asuma-kun and I were walking back to his house, we were meet by a Stone
ANBU. Apparently, he was looking for me, to tell me that I was summoned
to the deathbed of the Yuuhi Matriarch in Hidden Stone. Though
extremely surprised to hear from that side of the Clan, Father has never been
close to them, I accepted to travel to the Earth Country as soon and as fast as
possible. Though the Stone ANBU was escorting me there, Asuma-kun
insisted to come with me. So we packed up and left within the next hour.
I guess I should explain how our Clan works. Unlike most Clans around,
the Yuuhi Clan is under matriarchal authority, which means that only females
can be the Head of the Clan. And because our bloodline trait is randomly
passed into the next generation, only kunoichis with that trait can be asked to
lead the Clan. When the Head of the Clan dies, a new one is chosen by the
Head herself if she had time to, or the Clan reunites and chooses for
her. Then the Chosen one is asked to take on the position, and if she
accepts, she is given the Clan's scrolls and becomes its Guardian until she
passes away. If problems arise within the Clan, the Head is often asked
to take a decision in the matter and whatever the decision she takes, it is
respected and never contested.
When I arrived in Hidden Stone, I was surprised to see that I was the last one
to arrive: the whole Yuuhi Clan was already there. I was brought to the
deathbed of my mother's cousin, the Head of the Clan. I've meet her a
couple times before, when I was still a Genin. She looked.......old and
fragile, breathing labouredly, talking in hushed whispers.....It was....sad to
see her like this, even though I didn't know her personally. She spent
sometime in asking me all those questions....At first I was wondering why she
had a sudden interest in me, but as the question became more and more personal,
I suspected that she was about to ask me something I could not refuse.....And
she did put it in a way I could not say no.......She must have been a really
good Head.......
It seems that I am the last surviving kunoichi still bearing the bloodline
trait of the Clan. And unless I have children and pass on my genes to the
next generation, the bloodline trait might disappear with me.....There is still
some chances that it randomly comes out in the other family branches, but I
have the most chances to give it to my children.
So, for the first time in the Yuuhi history, the new Head of the Clan was not
chosen, nor did the Chosen one had a choice in refusing the position. I
was entrusted with the Clan's scrolls as the Matriarch took her last
breath. We stayed for her funerals, as the tradition demands it.....Poor
Asuma-kun was harassed by the older members of the Clan as they were making
sure he was a worthy suitor for me......I wished I had a camera with me when he
told them he is a member of the Sarutobi Clan.......It seems that the Third
Hokage's reputation travelled even here! From being suspicious and cold
to him, the elders behaviour changed to warm and condescend. They gave us
their blessing, saying that such an alliance between the two Clans was to good
to pass on. I hated feeling like a simple pawn in their game of
power!......Clan or not, I would have not changed my mind on my relationship
with Asuma-kun.....
So we came back to Kohona three days after we left, this time escorted by a
whole Stone ANBU squad. I was soooo embarrassed when the door sentinels
asked us if we had been kicked out of Earth Country.....And the ANBU squad to
respond by saying they owned me more respect than that since I was Head of the
Clan and blah blah.......Since Gai-sempai was on guard duty that night, I'm pretty
sure the whole village now knows about the reason of my visit to Hidden
Stone.....So much for wanting to keep it to myself.....
