Summary:
Author's Notes: So, here’s the deal. When I originally started plotting out FTE, the structure was not as it stands now. This is an outtake that I was going to write as a companion fic, but forgot all about in the flurry to get the actual fic finished. Now that all of the authors have been revealed,
cinnamon_kisses said that I could post it here. This is the scene where Alice finds out that the Volturi are coming early. Lots of humor in a tense situation.
book_rapport, this one’s for you :)
Alice threw herself on the couch and snuggled into Jasper’s arms with a happy sigh.
The entire day had gone perfectly, just as she’d known it would. The wedding had gone off without a hitch, followed by a reception that the town of Forks would still be talking about for years to come. Once the very last guests had made their way to their cars, Edward had swept a laughing Bella off of her feet and whisked her away to the Vanquish, yelling, “See you in a week,” over his shoulder.
Alice stretched her hands above her head and sighed. Emmett was grinning at her rather mischievously, and Jasper was suspiciously still next to her - she knew a prank was about to occur at her expense, but she was completely satisfied. Nothing could ruin this night for her now.
Suddenly, Alice stiffened, the familiar tugging of a vision coming quickly to the forefront of her mind. She closed her eyes and allowed herself to slip into the images.
She was absolutely horrified by what she saw.
There was a small plane in front of her, although she wasn’t sure where this particular plane was located. A glance to the left showed a sign in Italian. Italy then.
“Everything’s ready, Aro. Felix is already briefing the pilot on our destination,” stated a small, child-like voice that Alice recognized immediately as belonging to Jane.
“Good,” Aro said, his voice joyous. “Perfect.” He placed his hand on Jane’s lower back and steered her towards the door of the plane.
"What if the human girl isn't there when we arrive?" Jane asked, her voice almost excited. She seemed hopeful that Bella wouldn't be there, like she was looking for any excuse to start a fight.
"We'll give them three days to return before we come to that, Jane," Aro said, seeming to have come to the same conclusion. "Word has it that the lovebirds have just gotten married, isn't that wonderful?"
Jane pouted, and Aro chuckled. “Come now, my girl.” He grinned maniacally. “We wouldn’t want to keep the Cullens waiting.”
Alice came back to herself with a gasp. She bolted upright, her back ramrod straight, hands shaking in her lap.
Immediately, she felt herself calm slightly, and she looked at Jasper. There was a deep concern in his golden eyes. “Alice, what did you see?” The rest of her family was waiting for her explanation with bated breath.
Alice inhaled shakily. “The Volturi,” she breathed. “They’re about to board a plane.” She turned her body so she could face Jasper fully, although from the look on his face, he’d already grasped the full weight of her vision. “They’re coming early, Jasper. If they leave now, they’ll be here by morning.”
“By morning?” Carlisle asked, crouching down beside her. “Alice, are you certain?”
She nodded, then gasped yet again. “Bella and Edward! They have to know! If Aro gets here before they do-“
“Relax, Alice,” Jasper murmured soothingly, running his hands up and down her arms. “If they rush home now, they’ll be in just as bad a position as if they had stayed away. Worse even.”
“Because Bella is still a human,” Emmett said dully, and Alice buried her head in her hands. “Well, there’s only one solution then. Alice, find them and tell Edward he has to change her now.”
“And how do you expect me to do that, Emmett?” Alice snapped, annoyed. “I can see the future, but they’re probably in a hotel room somewhere. Hotel rooms all look alike.”
“Just try, Alice,” Esme said softly. “It’s our only option.”
Alice huffed angrily, but closed her eyes, thinking hard about who she wanted to see.
At once, her vision brought her to a room somewhere. She bit back a growl. The soft white walls and furnishings, even if they were rather fancy, all but screamed “hotel room.”
Alice’s eyes surveyed her surroundings. When her gaze reached the bed in the middle of the floor, she almost brought herself back to the present immediately.
I am not watching this, Alice thought to herself darkly. All the while, Edward continued undressing Bella, completely oblivious that somewhere, what could be a hundred miles away, his sister had become an unwilling spectator.
The sound of a phone ringing broke through her horrified stupor. Bella groaned and Edward reached into his pocket, producing his cell.
He then proceeded to throw the tiny silver phone against the wall, shattering it to pieces.
“Was that truly necessary?” Bella asked breathlessly.
Alice resisted the urge to roll her eyes as Edward answered, “I’ll buy a new one.”
Suddenly, the phone on the small table next to the bed rang shrilly, but Bella took care of that. She flung her hand out, and the phone clattered to the floor with a mighty crash.
“Was that truly necessary?” Edward asked, bemused, then gasped. Alice realized that she could no longer see Bella’s hands. She had to get out of there.
“Absolutely,” she said, then kissed him.
The sight of a pad next to the bed with the name of the hotel at the top almost made Alice cry out with joy. She committed the name, address, and phone number to memory, vowed to forget everything else she’d seen, and slipped back into consciousness.
As soon as her eyes snapped open, Alice quickly stood up and pulled her cell phone from her pocket.
“What are you doing?” Emmett asked, but she ignored him, continuing to dial Edward’s cell number. She knew that he wouldn’t pick up, but maybe there was a chance-
The phone rang twice, then went to voicemail. Alice let out a frustrated yell before hanging up and trying the hotel.
“Yes, hello, I need to speak with one of your guests,” Alice said fluidly to the operator. “This is his sister - it’s a family emergency. The room is reserved under Edward Cullen.” Alice waited for a moment while the receptionist connected her to Edward’s room.
That phone also rang twice before abruptly cutting off.
Aggravated, Alice snapped her phone shut. “They’re not picking up!” She’d known they wouldn’t, but she’d had to try anyway.
“Of course they’re not picking up, Alice,” Emmett said rather suggestively. “I can’t see the future, and even I could have told you that.”
Alice growled and picked up the nearest object she could reach - Esme’s favorite lamp - and proceeded to launch said lamp at Emmett’s head. Emmett laughed, barely ducking out of the way in time.
"Alice!" Esme cried indignantly. "Was that truly necessary?"
Alice stared at Esme in horror, then shook her head furiously to dispel the images those words brought to mind.
"Alice, was there anything else that you saw besides the hotel phone number? A location, perhaps?" Carlisle asked, calm and collected as always.
Alice nodded, glaring at a still chuckling Emmett. Rosalie smacked him in the back of the head. "Thanks, Rose. Yes, I saw the name and address on a pad on a table next to the bed. If I run, I should be able to get there within the hour."
"Next to the bed, huh?" Emmett said with a grin.
"Don't even think about finishing that thought, Emmett Cullen," Rosalie said, narrowing her eyes. "I personally don't have any real need to know whether or not Alice witnessed our brother's deflowering."
Jasper choked back his laughter for Alice's sake. Alice, on the other hand, held back a whimper of horrified embarrassment and simply made her way to the door with as much dignity as she could muster.
"I'll be back in three days. Don't call me, I'll call you."
"Wait!" Emmett called after her, suddenly completely serious. "What do we tell the Volturi?"
Alice turned around and smiled sweetly at her brother. "Use your imagination."
Emmett's mouth opened in protest, but the door was already shut behind her.
