Who: Tidus and Crux.
What: Indoor socializing can be scary.
Where: Tidus apartment.
When: Thursday afternoon.
Warnings: Nothing.
Personally she felt she had been doing a good job as of lately but apparently Lisa didn't think so and there had been an encouraging lecture about the fact that Crux needed to socialize even more hence why she was standing outside Tidus door, feeling very awkward as she rang the door bell. Sure he was someone she considered a friend and all but it didn't mean she'd just push herself out there among people for no reason. Looking around the hallway she sighed again shifted her weight from side to side, she felt exposed standing out there.
It was just a calm relaxing evening for once for the chipper young man, leaning far back on the comfortable couch allowing himself to mold perfectly in a slump against the soft cushions. The T.V. was on, but paid no mind, the laptop was open but the long time in letting it linger in idle state triggered the screen saver. His mindset for the past week or so was to remain inside away from what would seek to exploit his friends. Although Liz had told him to suck it up and quit sulking, but there was still a small part of himself that could not get over what had happened.
The ring at the door had snapped him from his hazy state, and an immediate smile painted from ear to ear. No matter how he felt, visitors would ad could not be turned down!... with a brisk step through the wideliving room passing the vacant kitchen to the corridor leading to the front door, all the while pondering at who it might be.
For a normal person waiting by the door probably wasn't a big deal, but for Crux it was. Her social phobia hadn't been helped much by the events of the last weeks and as the seconds ticked away she was getting antsy, had trouble standing still and she was starting to feel really, really uncomfortable. Maybe she shouldn't have come here, maybe she should just go back to her own place again. It was safe there, quiet but safe and yes Lisa probably wouldn't like that she'd chickened out but the alternative of getting yelled at seemed almost tempting.
Just as she was about to walk away the door opened causing her to step back a little, looking very much like a deer caught in a headlight as she stammered out a soft "Hello."
Peeking slowly between the small crack of the door his slow tactics changes swiftly at the sight of the pink haired girl he had met just a short while ago, having coffee and just hanging out together from time to time when one felt the need to indulge in the company of someone they known and trusted. She had been one of few who had sat through his true story of what was written in the papers, now of course blowing over smoothly as he had figured, but not seen or talked to Marian since that time. More so for poor Crux whom was just getting use to to having someone of Tidus' shinning personality around her. But it was all good! and was glad to see her!
"HEY Crux! Comon in!" He smiled cheerfully stepping to the side holding the door open for her to pass through. "What brings you here!?"
Stepping inside Crux almost seemed to shrink into her sweatshirt as she removed her shoes and looked around. "Um, I was just... I had..." Gah, well talk about easy question. She felt un-eased and tried to distract her by looking at the things in the hallway before managing a measly; "I was bored." Hoping that would be enough explaining why she was showing up from nowhere.
"HA! So was I.. so no need to feel uncomfortable." Smiling he shut he door behind him, turning to make his way past her to lead her on in his empty apartment. "You're lucky actually, this is one of the few times this place is deserted like this." he chuckled at his own joke at the thought of Crux in the middle of a huge party thrown in honor of... well... just because it gives many a reason to socialize. "Anytime your feeling bored you know you can always come here!"
Passing the kitchen yet again, making his way with a slow step to ensure she had not got lost on the way to where he was spending much of the evening. Staring blankly at the T.V. andmonitoring the idle laptop screen with the open files with his finished homework ready to be sent off to the Physics prof for the assignment due in a few days. "Do you want something to drink or eat Crux?" HE figured he'd ask before settling himself back in his usual comfy spot.
Nodding she followed him into the apartment her eyes taking in everything around them. The basic layout of the apartment didn't look that much different from hers but his decorating was a lot different, not as minimalistic as hers.
"No thank you." Flashing him a tiny smile she sat down on the couch, pulling her feet up under her and placing her hands in her lap. Sitting down made her relax a bit, she didn't feel as tense any more and it boosted her confidence in an odd way. "I'm not bothering you, am I?" Tilting her head a bit to the side she looked at Tidus.
"Nahw... just gotta Email this assignment, but it's due in a few days so I'm early." He replied, taking a spot just next to her extending a finger to the finger touch mouse pad to rid of the screen saver, point to the spread sheet with formulas and numbers. To others, Math was just another means of driving the human mind farther to the depths of insanity, for Tidus it was relaxing, to enjoy doing something he had know how to do, and do it well. The academic accomplishment that followed with the completion of a math or physics assignment had not been the same as, say winning a soccer game, but it was a close second.
"So what did you want to do? I don't think I have anyone else coming so we are free to do whatever but I really don't feel like going out anywhere. Talk? though we had done enough of that the last time. Maybe something that doesn't require brain power to do?" He chuckled leaning back in a huff raising both his hands up and behind his head in a stretch before extending to rest along the back of the couch.
"There's no harm in being early, is there?" It was a genuine question. School was something Crux only had some vague memories of as she had been pulled out before even starting High School and because of it she had skills lacking. Most of those she could do without, some she had learned over the years and some she was at a complete loss to. Her eyes fell on the screen, brows furrowed a bit as she tried to make out the meaning of all the numbers. Surprising curious she leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees as she peered entranced at the screen.
At his question Crux blanked and gave Tidus a slightly bewildered look. "What I want to do?" What on earth did she want to do? Learn how to socialize without freaking out as soon as something happened, get more comfortable around her friends, just interact like normal people? Not that she could say any of those things without sounding like a complete dork. She settled for a quiet "I don't know," before turning her eyes back to the computer screen.
"No, there isn't anything wrong with being early. Actually it's puts me in a good position with the profes'. " He smiled back calmly, cobalt eyes following as she leaned in slightly closer to capture the mess of formulas splayed out over the outgoing mail window ready to be sent. Tilting his head slightly noting the rather 'cute' curiosity the young woman seemed to have about everything, almost resembling that of a child only newly discovering things and becoming fascinated with what she had no previous knowledge from.
With a cast of his glance he fanned over the tidy room of his living room, inwardly in desperation to find something to keep her interest captivated. Pausing at the mess of controllers and wires of his gaming systems piled 'neatly' to the corner. No, Crux didn't seem like the TV watchin' video game playin' type of girl, although his collection of the Final Fantasy serious would sure open her mind and use it's battle structures as a means to think swiftly and problem solve. Most would think games such as these were foolish and a waste of time, but SquareEinx did have a knack for combining solving tactics, with beautiful graphics and action packed story lines.
Continuing his search his eyes fell upon the white invitation, a stunning black swirl of designs on the front with his name written in bold as in invitation to Gaston's party, well his mother had formally invited the chipper young soccer star on the account the weight of his last name held in the public eye. Of course Tidus was not one to turn down an invitation to such an event, even though the hostess' son had not one kind word to say...ever. A light huff passed his lips as he removed his arm from the back of the sofa reaching to grasp the corner of the sheet between his fingers to study it more closely.
"I can imagine the publicity I would get here the moment I step out of that car...... like I need anymore."
Crux had a thing for numbers, maybe because it was that Oscha had liked keeping her around when he did finances or maybe it was just a natural interest of hers but well whatever it was it captivated her. Scooting closer to the edge she continued to read the formulas and equations with a small smile forming on her lips as she nodded at whatever it was Tidus was saying. It wasn't until she heard him huff a bit that she snapped out of the trance she had been in.
"Publicity?" Ah, more things long the lines of that news paper clippings with Miss. Foxe perhaps. It didn't seem too fun, in fact if she ever would be put in the spotlight like that she would most likely freeze up in terror and never leave her apartment again. Ever.
He nodded once, turning the thick sheet of paper to glance the back in inspection. He still had not had a date, there was no way in hell he was going to ask Mariain as she had already proven her feelings of been seen in public with him. Honestly he never figured himself to me that ugly, in fact a lot had found him to be very attractive. Though his lifestyle had been difficult for relationships in the past, girls that could not handle the status he carried with his name, he name is what made them cling to him in the first place to have that 30 seconds of fame. But Crux, he had just met her really, only starting to get to know her and already she had stepped over that huge obstacle of her social retardedness buy taking it upon herself to show up.
"Hey, Crux....wanna be my date for this thing?... I'll even buy you something new to wear!" His mouth seemed to move swiftly, the words dribbling from his lips as if her whole handicap was completely brushed to the side and he had placed her in a very awkward position. He smiled blankly at the sheet before turning a smooth glance to the corners of his sockets, searching her face for an answer that had not occurred to him would be a flat out no.
It wouldn't be polite to outright shout no, would it? Crux twisted and opened her mouth to speak but as no words came out she closed it again, repeating that action she made herself look awfully much like a fish on dry land before she finally just stopped and stared at him half in wonder, half in terror. "I- N- Tidus. I-I can't. I'm sorry." Suddenly she was feeling rather foolish and casting her eyes downwards she seemed to shrink into the couch. Just the thought of going somewhere to something he assumed would bring lots of publicity had sent her mind into a frenzy of what-if's, and none of them pleasant. There wasn't just her social phobia to deal with, there were other far more sinister things that could come crawling out of the woodworks after something that public. Just the possibilities of what her past could bring out was enough to make her feel sick to her stomach.
It might not have been for that long but it felt like hours before she finally spoke up again, her voice barely audible and eyes still fixed on her hands. "There'll be too many people and I have enough of a trouble just coming here. I like spending time with you, but I can't handle all those people at once and there are other things as well... I'm sorry, Tidus."
And there it was, rejection number two hitting like a tone of bricks flattening just a little more of that over confident attitude yet again, it was not so much the fact that he had not already known the answer to his invitation. It had been the consistency that seemed to follow every time he had gotten the time to actually ask anther out, even if was just as friends. This was beginning to get discouraging. Very much so.
His eyes fell, as hers did, turning anywhere he could to avoid his sudden rush of embarrassment. Of course, how could he have been so bluntly stupid Crux had done everything in her will power to show up here this evening, and after that mishap that near everyone had no doubt read there was probably not another who would want to go through that. "Nahw! Don't worry about it. Just thought I'd offer since we're friends an all!..." He waved it off with a weak smile, attempting to accomplish the usual 'Tidus' thing to do. "Strike two. I should have not poked fun of Gaston, when my luck even with my friends is bad!" He laughed lightly. "Don't worry, I'll just stag it."
"Thank you but it's... I'm still not comfortable enough around people. I'm sorry." Why couldn't she just slip into the crack of the couch and disappear. "Maybe you'll meet someone there that you'll be able to have a good time with?" A hesitant question posed as she glanced up at him. Crux really did feel kind of bad for saying no to him, after all he had been nothing but nice to her and he was her friend but as much as she wanted to say yes she couldn't, the panic shaking her very core was stronger than her wish to make her friend happy.
"Stop apologizing Crux, I understand." He followed sinking back into a slouch in the comfort of the cushions of the couch, his arm still hooked to the back as his eyes fell half jaded to the blank computer screen. His face was hot, burning hot and he hadn't known exactly why considering situations such as this had never arose for the young soccer star, let alone twice in a row. He turned his attention to her once again at her words, letting them slowly sink in as he waited a moment for her to finish waiting to rebuttal that statement opening bright blue eyes to her. "..what makes you think I wont have a good time with you, there would just be a few more people around than usual. But that's beside the point, I really don't want to make anyone uncomfortable especially my friends, so don't apologies... I just wasn't thinking."
At that she couldn't help but smile. Really it wasn't often that Crux did so and asides from Lisa, Makenshi and the twins there probably hadn't been a person in the last ten years that had seen her really smile but for some reason she couldn't stop herself.
"Don't apologize. You were being nice and I... wish I could go with you but I can't, I'm the one who should apologize if anyone should." She almost felt like laughing, even if she hadn't known him for too long the whole 'didn't think it through' part was just so much like him. A roll of a dice and a wild chance taken, Crux envied him for daring to be so...free.
He offered a wide smile in return, it was not often when they had gone out that he was grace with something as rare as a simple tug of her lips. And when it had happened, it was as if all doubt and regret had melted away and he was left with the warm satisfied feeling that he was able to do that for her. "You should smile more often, it looks good on you."
Leaning just a tad farther reaching with the opposite hand he flicked his finger over the laptop touch pad, repositioned the cursor of send and tapped twice to send his assignment off to the prof. before it was completely forgotten. A lacks breath passed his lungs settling back and turning back to the bright pink haired girl to his side. "Maybe we can once you get more comfortable with me."
Glancing away Crux tried to keep her grin from growing, this was just silly, a slight blush was coloring her cheeks. He had made her smile, it wasn't that huge of a thing but she couldn't stop grinning and it was making her cheeks hurt.
"I wouldn't mind going out with you, I feel comfortable enough around you. It is the other people that I mind." For some reason she felt relaxed again and resting her head against the back of the couch.
Beaming now, Tidus with the proud sense of accomplishment hearing those words. She had been comfortable which was a rather great feat, looking back on the first day they had spent time together. It was hard to reassure her that her paranoia of how others perceived her was only a visage and in how she had viewed herself. She was a good person, if only those would look past the wildly bright tone of her hair and the quiet nature of her personality, Crux was... Crux. And now, he wouldn't want her any other way, that smile specifically for him... one she can call a friend.
With the extension of his arm just a tad farther as she leaned against the sofa closer to him, curling an arm around her to tug her in for an affectionate hug. Taking the few moments of both parties to be use to the foreign feeling of having each other, the sweet smell of her hair, the light giggle gracing the air around them and the warmth of having one to truly call... a close friend. "You better come over more often." He chuckled into her.
Not at all expecting Tidus to touch her, even less hug her Crux tensed up, her mind screaming at her to get away but she was utterly unable to move from the panic of the unsuspected situation she found herself in. But as panic began to ebb out and reason began to kick in she wanted to smack herself, this was Tidus, he wasn't going to harm her. And with those realizations she allowed herself to relax, shifting slightly she slipped her arm around his waist and letting her head rest against his shoulder she nodded at his words. Yeah, after this maybe she would have to come over more often.
