Author's Notes: This story is set after Eclipse, but it does not contain any spoilers. So if you haven't read it yet nothing will be given away. Also, the format is inspired from The Book Thief and if you haven't read that yet, you should read it because it's really good. It's also a very short story, and without all the extra format will probably only reach 1 1/2 pages.

For somebody who spends a lot of time in hospitals, Bella Swan really did hate them. She hadn't really noticed before, but she supposed that was because there were so many things distracting her. Whilst being rushed to the emergency room all she had focused on was staying conscious.

***THREE THINGS TO IGNORE WHILE INJURED***
1)The blood
2)The pain
3)And most recently, the beat of a heart that would soon be soundless

Besides ignoring all the more nasty things concerning herself, it was also important to pay attention to the flustered doctors, worried fathers, and devastated boy[friends] .

***JUST A FACT***
The boys by Bella Swan's bedside range from Edward Cullen, to Jacob Black, to Mike Newton and back again. It varies biweekly.

The point of it all was that when it was you who was injured it was like you were moving too fast for the rest of the world, leaving everything else behind.

***IF YOU WANTED TO NARROW IT DOWN***
Maybe it was just everything else important that's left behind.

Now, however, the roles were switched. Everybody moved too fast in an urgent effort to save a life. She was now the one left behind, moving too slow to fit into anything important, to belong to anything pertaining to the current tragic event.

So Bella sat, feeling more alone than she had in a long while, the moments spent waiting in a hospital were tedious, and she hated every moment of it.
The music was bad, the walls were too white, and the air of the unknown lingered just a little too strong, because there is always the possibility that everything is ruined.

***A NOT-SO-QUICK DICTIONARY DEFINITION***
1)A destroyed or decayed building
2)A fallen, wrecked, or decayed condition
3)The downfall, decay, or destruction of anything
4) A person as the wreck of his or her former self
5) The complete loss of health, means, hope, position, or the like
We'll just go with the last one.

Everyone was on edge, leaving just enough room to pester and question those near them.
Who could blame them, though, as they sat next to her helpless while waiting for the answers living behind the doors that were looking thicker every second.

***A SNIPPET OF CONVERSATION***
"Yes, I know somebody in there. Yes, I'm worried and afraid. No, I would not like to talk to you about it. Please go away."

A girl runs in; she looks around sixteen.

***A NOSTALGIC REMINDER***
The same age of Jacob Black when she met him, a million years ago

She [the girl] is thrashing and fighting, her poor mother looking more distressed than should be healthy.

"You shouldn't have been drinking, and those friends of yours shouldn't have been driving..." she mutters off.

Bella think people are funny. For the first 20 years all you want to do is be older- to do all those fun things adults do- but then through the last 40 years all you want is to be younger.

Bella thinks it's funny, because once again she doesn't belong. The thing is, all she wants is to stay the same.

***HOW EDWARD CULLEN FEELS***
All he really wants is to change

Bella considers this, vaguely wondering where he is. She never really belongs, or feels complete when he isn't around. She sighs, realizing that it doesn’t matter who you are; everybody wants something they can't have. Even vampires who have everything aren't ever really happy, and neither are the petty humans who have the opportunity to have anything.

***A GUIDED TOUR OF GRIEF***
The door opens quietly, but everybody hears.
It's the moment we've all been waiting for, ladies and gentlemen:
Is my loved one alive or dead?
But the moment the man walks out she knows it's her.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Bella, but you're father…"
We don't really need to hear the rest.

Bella cries, but then she laughs, and everybody's looking at her like she's worse than strange. How could this have happened to her? She coughs, hysterics creeping up and overtaking her. She will never quite be happy again, a piece of her being ripped out from under her fingers. She feels the despair, but does not understand it. She does not notice the doctor, whom she secretly knows as a second father, call his son; I guess he is boyfriend of the week.
She does not notice that he is already there, running in through distant doors and wrapping her up in his stone cold arms. She cries into his chest, struggling to breathe as she hates the world for what it's done to her.
A struggled mixture between a laugh and cough escapes her, and she thinks it's funny because she was the one who wanted to die, but somehow her father got her wish, almost as if fate messed up and chose the wrong Swan.

***A REMAINING QUESTION***
How could he have died before her?
This wasn't in the plan.
