Title: Wet and Alone
Team:  Human
Challenge: Dry
Rating: PG
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Bella
Summary: AU/AH. She remembers home, where she was warm and dry and safe. But she’s still here, soaking and alone.

The rain comes down hard, soaking her to the skin. As she walks through the darkened streets, she allows herself to remember back, to a time when she was happier; warm and safe and loved. She can recall sitting in front of the fire late at night, her mother next to, arm around her shoulders. And if she just closes her eyes she can see it all again; can hear the rain on the roof and remember what it felt like to be inside; dry and happy, surrounded by love. But now she’s alone, and she’s never felt so wet.

Title: Quiet
Team:  Human
Challenge: Dry
Rating: PG
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Bella
Summary: Pre-Twilight. Bella enjoys a hot day in Phoenix.
A/N: I know nothing of Phoenix, so sorry for any wrongness.

Phoenix is quiet, peaceful almost. It’s the middle of the day, and the heat is stifling. Most everyone is inside, windows closed and air conditioner cranked high. It hasn’t rained in months, and the land is desert. Bella sits on her front porch, under the shade of the awning. In her hands is a book, beside her a glass of orange juice. She doesn’t mind the heat of her hometown; she enjoys the peace it brings. And it’s beautiful here, really. The sun bathes the houses in the most beautiful light. But most of all, its home, and she’s happy.

Title: New Life
Team:  Human
Challenge: Dry
Rating: PG
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Bella
Summary: Pre-Twilight. Bella walks to the summit and feels the rain.
A/N: I know nothing of Phoenix, so sorry for any wrongness.

Dry, dead leaves are crackling under her feet, rustling and crunching. Even in the shade of the trees, heat is pounding her from every side, stifling and airless. Sweat is covering her body, soaking her clothes. She’s walking slowly, lethargically. It’s too hot; scorching, sizzling, searing. But then she’s breaking the line of trees, and she stands at the summit. She can see the city of Phoenix sprawled out below her. In the distance thunder crashes. And then she’s lifting her face to the sky and feeling the first drops of rain wet her cheeks, finally feeding the parched earth.
