California is great, we like it here. The weather is nice but - we haven't really made any new friends yet and that is shitty beyond belief. We had to take an 80 dollar cab ride home from the airport when we got back into town last month.
Now, I know, we know a couple people here but they are nothing like the friends we had in Washington and I think that's what makes it hard to deal with. I'm going to give birth in a couple of months and we're looking around like "How can we get the dog to the kennel (45 minutes north) and get to the birth center (45 minutes west) at the same time?" My mom will be in town but I don't expect her to be able to:
1. Coral our silly dog
2. Get in and out of a Honda delSol on her own (assuming we're in the Magnum)
3. Find her way (even with TomTom) from one city to another when she's never been here before
It just sucks that there is no one that we can say "Hey, when this whole thing *points at belly* gets going - can you take our dog to the kennel/come stay here with him so he doesn't poop/pee everywhere?"
We're also pretty certain that we won't be having an official baby shower, we know 2 other couples and one of them is just weird. Of course they are "my friends". She is someone I wouldn't let watch my dog - much less a child - and her hubby is...anti-social?...he hides in their room playing "computer" when we go over there. I think it's usually WoW but I honestly don't know. The other couple is one of Brandon's ex-co-workers from England. He just happens to be out here also. We've had them over once - and his fiance totaled her SUV turning into our subdivision. She was going a little too fast to make the turn and hit one of those middle of the 2 lanes "Name o' the Subdivision" things right on the corner. Airbags deployed, cracked the radiator, had to be towed from our house - all fantastic things making for a great first impression. Oddly enough they haven't been back since.
So, basically I'm just bitching about how much more convenient it would be if our friends from Washington were here - or even some family would be nice. Thank god for teh interweb or else I'd feel pretty isolated.
