Saturday my BBST class had a field trip (no. 1) to the heart of London.
We, studying art at the current moment, went to two art galleries (one being a name I completely forgot & the other being Tate Britain). Both were lovely galleries with a great display of art. The first one was modern and definitely gave cause for one to stop and think long and hard before moving on to the next piece. The 2nd gallery had artwork dating back to the 1500s and included such masterpieces as Millais' Ophelia which I absolutely love.
I'm definitely no art buff and can hardly tell the difference between a Rembrandt and a Millais. But I loved the time we got to spend in the museums. What was really cool was that we had a private hour tour at the
Tate Britain by a well-versed gentleman with an amazingly dry sense of humor. (Reminded me of
whosgambit) Its strange, ok - maybe natural, however that I should have thought upon my ex-boyfriend, David Lee Owen, who is an accomplished art student skilled with the pencil, especially. Being in an art museum, I definitely thought about what he would have been thinking and which paintings he might have preferred. Strange yet... surreal.
Anyway, the amazing field trip was capped off with a trip to Shakespeare's Globe!!! We had the opportunity to stand in the yard and watch a performance of Measure for Measure performed by an all-male company! Quite impressive. I felt as if I was transported back in time to the days of Shakespeare... So strange and exciting, yet... surreal. After the performance, I got the autograph and picture of the gentleman who performed the role of Angelo. He had an awesome accent and great presence on stage.
A success, you ask? Yes, most definitely!
The day's fieldtrip was finished by Andrea, Lolli, Kathy, Hosea and I decided to wander over to
Leicester Square. We took a nice scenic walk going by way of the
Millennium Bridge, passing a gentleman selling roasted chestnuts for £1,20 (ouch, that's pricy - but so cute and ... surreal!). We ended up taking a tube from St. Paul's to Oxford Circus where we started walking along the famed street and Regents Str.
As we walked, we spotted a toy store,
Hamley's, and Hosea encouraged us girls to go in. I don't think it would have taken too much prompting from him but we went in. Oh how fun! There were seven (7) floors but we only browsed three (3). Can you imagine? This is like the place any kid wants to go and never leave. They had a huge selection of legos which were quite impressive and looked like so much fun!!! They even made R2D2 (Star Wars) out of Legos and a pirate and other randomness. Oh, true fun.
After exploring the streets, we stopped at a little Greek restaurant where Lolli and Kathy ordered some food. I didn't have enough money on me (blush!) so I just purchased a Fanta Orange. Did quench the thirst so I was satisfied. We parted with Hosea at the restaurant when he got a phone call and had to be off to a birthday party. And being tired, we girls soon headed home so we could all get a good night's rest for the day to come.
