Helen is sitting on the edge of the lake in the moonlight, considering ways of killing herself that might not allow her to return. She feared attempting to drown herself wouldn't even kill her properly, and letting herself starve was far too dangerous; even the few days without Pandora had strained her humanity and control a bit farther than she felt was safe. Much of the traditional vampire lore she knows is impossible to attempt. It is, for example, impossible to cut off one's own head, and then stuff one's own mouth with garlic, without more creativity than Helen possesses.
But there is always the sun. She could just sit here, on the shore of the lake, and wait for the sun to rise. Perhaps it would even work.
