My rules

Apr 30, 2007 09:19

I thought I'd mention one of my personal rules. These aren't Phaean Tenets or anything; just my personal rules, the ones I live by that I don't necessary think work outside my own head.

Rule #2: I do not care about the opinions of idiots.

rules, me

How do you define "idiot"?

Good question. It's fairly subjective. People who disagree with me for rational reasons are not idiots. People who hold unfounded opinions that are contrary to verifiable fact (ie dinosaurs and human beings co-existed; the universe was created in six standard Earth days) or that are contrary to any reasonable expectation (ie Jesus would have been a Republican) are going to be considered "idiots," that sort of thing.

So the sheep of the world. Gotcha.

Kind of ironic, really, considering one of the archaic definitions is "individual" or "free-thinker". Then again, there are many, many more definitions along the lines of what you describe, so that one doesn't really count anymore.

Just one of many words that have changed in meaning throughout the years.

Heya Trav, long time no see. :-) I think I was using the nick 'Juliet' when we corresponded via PODS.

Ace pointed me this way ...

Ah, hey. Yeah, I remember you. Saw you'd added me to your friends' list earlier and figured this was you. I mean honestly, how many people in Australia do I know, right? ;)
