that's because you were a child when you first read them. when a child comes across a concept for the first time, it's completely new and astonishing, even if the concept is actually a well-worn and discredited cliche. and the ability to retain at least part of that childlike feeling of wonder and awe into adulthood is a major component of what we (you and me, and people like us...) are.
as for not having the artistic ability to make a comic out of your plots and characters... plenty of comics have a writer and an artist. i daresay you know more than one person with artistic talent...
"We" being what, geeks? Pagans? Neuro-atypicals? Childish brats?
If we're talking comic books, almost ALL comic books have a division of labor organized around plot teams and art teams. Some comics get away with merely four people on a title now; writer, pencils, ink, and coloring. You'll occassionally also find a storyboarder, multiple writers rather than just a maddened loner with a keyboard. While I do know several people with artistic talent, even a few whose art style I think would be quite fitting with what I have in mind, they are unfortunately all busy or unavailable for a project like this.
"we" being SF-reading, high-IQ, neuro-atypical geeky pagans.
i was thinking more about webcomics than comic books... Two Lumps and A Miracle Of Science being examples of webcomics with a writer and an artist. still, i know what you mean... i've always wished i had the ability to transfer what i see inside my head to a form that other people could see, but there's a fundamental disconnect between the brain and the hands...
