Okay.
In this post, betnoir lists ten things which she feels do not live up to the hype surrounding them. Fair enough. My response?
Ten things I miss.
#1: When beauty was either naturally-occurring or the result of art, rather than nowadays wherein beauty is a science or a medical procedure.
#2: the fourth Doctor. Jelly babies, the coat, and that scarf... all wrapped around a guy more mad than a hatter. He's the one who sold me on Doctor Who.
#3: the Paul Dini-era animated Batman. This current anime-styled thing... feh.
#4: Johnny Carson, the king of late-night TV.
#5: a halfway-interesting lineup of Saturday morning cartoons.
#6: Scottie from Mythbusters. Whither Scottie, fair welder?
#7: Jerry Orbach, especially for his performance as Lenny Briscoe. Law and Order will never be the same without you, Jerry.
#8: the idea that excelling on your own merit and talent was a thing to be admired. There was a time when your average Joe wouldn't be considered for President, and certainly not one who just happened to be born into money.
#9: The Muppet Show. There has been nothing like it since it left the air, including other things bearing the "Muppet" logo.
#10: my grandmother. Several family members, actually, but she's topping the list just now.
Feel free to share your ten most-missed with me.
