For future reference: Blue = charm

Playing Mass Effect 2, finally, 'cause I wanna get through it before everyone starts spoiling it in Mass Effect 3 discussions :) And I am really enjoying it so far, about 13 hours in. However... MINOR SPOILERS in a minor grump follow:

So I just lost Zaeed's loyalty in his loyalty mission. This was because I was just looking at the WORDS of the conversation options. There was a disagreement, and I thought the blue (paragon) option was just going to smack him around the head some more with goody-two-shoes talk (as it had earlier), and I figured he didn't need that in his current situation (plus, it didn't feel like the Shep I was playing). So I picked an option that seemed more fitting to the situation.

Yeah, well, turns out the blue conversation option is a CHARMING one, and if I'd picked that, I WOULD have had his loyalty. Gee, thanks, game. Here I've been all but shooting him in the head with earlier paragon options, and NOW you decide that THIS time it would be all forgiving and stuff? I thought saying "You brought this upon yourself" (as the blue option was named) would just piss him off further, but nope.

I'm still going along with it, as I kinda promised myself I would earlier... My last manual save was a bit far back, too. But yeah. Looking less at words, more at colors from here on. Which feels kinda unsatisfying. I was trying to actually roleplay, but now it feels more like I'm having to think of the systems more than the words, since the words in the conversation options don't always mesh with what's actually being said.

Similar, though more minor complaint: Early on in the game, I'm pondering two possible options about a character arguing with the ship AI. I figure the "Adapt" conversation option is a more neutral option than "There's a mute button. Use it", right? Nope. "Adapt" has me going "I don't have time to babysit you two. Shut up and deal with it!" Um. Okay. Thankfully it didn't really affect anything beyond that, and MOST of the time the conversation options work, but when they mislead, it's oh-so-aggravating.
