It's goddamned fucking awesome. Brilliant payoff to the previous set-up-everything movie. People have complained that the movies have more and more turned magic into a casual thing, but here it's dramatic and BIG and beautifully done. And, dude, I did get misty-eyed, but I'm not gonna spoil why. Hinting at it would spoil it.
I do have one complaint, but that falls into the "overconfident guy" camp. It's just... overconfident in a way that's completely illogical based on earlier events and behavior. That one scene, though, is literally my only complaint about the movie after the first viewing. Sure, I might spot mistakes on repeat viewings (because I will buy the Blu-Ray), but for now, it's all but perfect. It's edge-of-your-seat. It's funny in a non-pushy way. It's filled with neat little details. It feels like the best Harry Potter movie, period.
The trouble with the Potter movies, though, is that you really need to have watched them all to even understand a lot of what's going on in the last two. And don't even THINK about going into the final one without having seen the semifinal one. The "Part 2" is there for a reason, folks. You're thrown into it with just a minor reference to the final scenes of the previous movie, and one brief recap line. Take away those three minor things, and you can really treat Part 1 and 2 as one single, nearly five hours long movie.
