so i know i keep my lj as a private journal, but f there are any errant readers observing this post, please read these essential books:
jessica valenti's the purity myth (plus, if that piques your interest, her full frontal feminism and her he's a stud she's a slut, and 49 other double standards that every woman should know), michael kimmel's guyland, and barry glassner's culture of fear. ariel levy's female chauvinist pigs is another good one, too, as it shows just how powerful institutionalized misogyny is and the more curious effects it can have on women.
if i was ruler of the world, every person would have to read these books. they would also have to read "mark reads twilight." they would not, however, be forced to read twilight (i don't italicize twilight because books get italicized--twilight is more like the mass murder of trees).
